Start date: probably early June.

Have we thought about continuingwith The World of the Others books.
It has a new book coming out next March. Crowbones.

I know I will continue with this world. They are my "candy" reading.

Now that we have the date for the toppler, How about starting it right after? June 13th?

Guys, I just received a book for "meet the author" from the library and I need to get it read before the 17th. Won't be getting it done this week because of toppler, but I can play catch up as soon as I complete it. I am very excited, I have never got to speak with an author about their book before.

The book is Things We Didn't Say. I have started it and it is quite different.

That would be great if y'all could delay as long as it doesn't screw anything up for anyone.

I'm not looking forward to meeting Jimmy. Even his own mother doesn't want him to stay! I like the letters at the end of these chapters but I couldn't remember who Barb was till I heard the letter at the end of Chapter 3! It's a good way of remember us about the more peripheral characters.

Same here, These emails/letter are fun inserts. I give us the pulse of what is happening elsewhere in the world.
I looked at the other book synopsis of the world of others series. Book 7 takes us back to Bennett. I will be happty to revisit the place.

Last night I got to work untill 19h30. Why do emergency always pops in just before 17h00 on Fridays? So I was tired. I open a bottle of wine and read. I finish the book. I did take note (summary posts)_and I will post them tonight.

Not in one... I was already on chapter 8 or so... but when I get into my reading bubble I can read pretty fast.

Yeah, I am not sure that (view spoiler)[ that I like the new bad "brother & sister" theme. I am also not find the resettlement of the towns all that interesting.

Chapter 1-3

(view spoiler)[Chase the bicycle is so fun. I giggled throughout this chapter.
Meg & Simon are venturing into dangerous waters. I am still not sure if I would like them to be romantic or platonic. I am not sure if a romantic relationship will work for them.
I am looking forward to meeting the two elders who are going to come and stay in Lakeside!
Jimmy's arrival will probably bring one of the first twists to the story. I don't think it will end well for Sierra. It's hard to understand how and why Sierra is so easily manipulated by Jimmy. I probably would have understood if she were young. But she ab adult with her own kids to take care of. How does she not see the danger she'd be putting her kids in?
And how naive can she be to think that the apartment that has been given to them is free of cost?
It is because of this kind of attitude from her that I feel like things are not gonna end well for her either. Whether the consequences will be lethal or whether she will simply end up learning a lesson and changing remains to be seen. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-2

(view spoiler)[Did like the title for Meg on the intro given by the others "sweet blood not-wolf" just a little reference from the previous book when she howls in the barn :).

Hehehe the play-pray was amusing with Kowalski, I can only imagine the fear hehehehe

Looks like the humans are at this point are doing a little of disaster management, witch is good, trying to prevent another one, hope everything goes smoothly.

I guess the new cards that Meg got from the deck can be regarding the Twyla son, the new government in town or something related to the Bennet town (re-population), we will see what happens.I'm inclined to the re-population of Bennet because they need experienced people there.

chapter 6-7

Meg elbow: I am not sure where this is going.

The elders forcing Simon to keep Jimmy around will create tons of issues to be sure.

I am liking Twyka more and more. No nonsense, feet solid on the ground and she does not miss much and seems to take everything in stride. That last part will probably be challenged a lot now that she moved in the courtyard.

And Jimmy does know how to make a good first impression. What world does he lives in? ! I think we all met this kind of person that live in their onw world who think they should get what they need just because. Toxic people. As someone who is know to get way free from whatever he does, you would expect that he would be less clueless.

Burke remark atthe end about taking him for a long ride surprise me. But thinking back, I get it. The situation being what it is, Jimmy could be the spark that land in the powder keg .

Chapter 10 (view spoiler)[ Twyla surprised me. I know she was tough but to hear her ask simon to let her own grandkids go hungry to teach their mother a lesson 8s not what I expected! I guess it won't hurt them but it might make them bitter towards the community.

I wonder what the fluffballs are going to do? I hope it will shame sissy. The hold jimmy has over her isn't quite believable - when she was a child yes, but as a grown woman with her own kids I think it's a stretch. But why does Jimmy's woman put up with him? He obviously has some strange hold over the women in his life - except Twyla!

Jimmy has been lording (to stay polite) over Sissy non stop since childhood. And she does not have the type of personality that can put her foot down and kick him out of her life. I am surprised she has custody of her kids. When an abuser get hold of someone who accept (this is not the right word but the proper one escapes me, but you get what I mean) abuse, this happens. I see this as a variation on the violent spouse situation. (hide spoiler)]

I was sure that the man Jimmy plotted with in the bar was Megs old "owner" but no, it was Jack. Feral was "property" in question. I'm surprised the elders intervened in human v human violence.

Chapters 14 to 18 (view spoiler)[ I'm getting bored again. Nothing very interesting happening. The group meal was nice but uninterest. The only notable thing was skippy trying to turn human and the fact that he was allowed to attend because of his efforts. Is the message here that Jimmy and his family weren't invited because they didn't want to change? The little girl wants to change according to lizzy. I know that their being there would put meg at risk but I can't help thinking of the message it's sending to those kids.

They are conditioned to believe they are nothing without the other person and no one would want them.

Agreed (view spoiler)[ There is a theme of motherhood running through this from menstruation to parenting (good or bad). It is actually refreshing that so many comments are made about the female cycle as this is mostly a taboo subject in fiction. Of course to relates to bleeding which is another big theme here. I have wondered if meg and simon could have pups of themselves. Meg would be a great mother.

I finished the book last night. For me it was a 3.5 star read in a 3.5 star series. I did enjoy it and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy urban fantasy low on action. What made me keep reading were the great characters.

I spent a lot of this one wondering if Meg would survive as this author doesn't have a problem with going dark. I thought that at least main character would die but the only death was Jimmy and there there was no way he was coming out of this alive! He was pretty stupid. I didn't quite believe Twyla as as a character for the reasons we've discussed. Craig was a young version of his dad but I'm glad there's hope for Frances.

I think there's also hope for a peaceful resolution between humans and others as we know humans can learn and it has been shown that elders can too.

Meg survived what was probably the most boring kidnapping attempt I've ever read! Some seriously heavy handed plotting here - the car Jimmy borrowed just happened to have a boot that wouldn't shut properly? Sure 🤨 Even the punctur3 wasn't a surprise as meg had forseen it. Why didn't she forsee her own kidnapping more clearly and take steps to avoid it? Anne Bishop should avoid writing action seens and concetrate on people.

Meg ahd simon had a happily ever after ending, not my favourite kind! I still have a problem with cross species romance but there are mitigating factors in this one. Simon is not ancient (as far as we know) and meg is not ordinary. She is a howling not-wolf, sweet blood. If that doesn't make it okay it al least takes the sting out 🤭
