Let's discuss Volume I of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall!

Amy McCracken (amymc109) So far, I am liking Tenant. It took me a little longer to get into the story, but now that I am into it, I am finding myself intrigued with the story. I like the character of Helen, moreso now that we get to read her journal. Gilbert is a bit much to take -- I would have liked more of how he fell in love with Helen rather than all of a sudden, he wants to be with her always. I will say that I find the storyline to be one that is rather sophisticated for someone of Anne's age, and certainly one that is as relevant today as it was almost 200 years ago. Her style, too, is often more accessible than Charlotte's, making Anne's work a little easier to grasp.

I am looking forward to seeing how the story of Helen and Mr. Huntingdon plays out in the next volume.

Mary Wong | 13 comments I am falling in love with this book all over again! I do admit that upon reading this again i am realising how rapid Gilbert's ardour for Helen is. And in so many ways I find Gilbert a lot younger and more immature then Helen. But what I love most about this book is this idea of how this supposedly fallen woman is seen and redeemed for what she is really worth--that someone appreciates it and is willing to pursue it relentlessly.
