Hey everyone!

Hope you enjoyed our reads for April. Apologies again for not being very active - we are all finishing up school and university, so have a lot on our plates at the moment!!

My final year dissertation is actually due on Monday, so am very excited to delve into one of my comfort reads from years ago - happy so many of you are too, it really is nostalgic.

Now, I know the films are very controversial, but I'm also looking forwards to watching the films too for comfort (keeping the story separate from the books of course, ahaha).

Who else will be joining in for our Percy Jackson read? I might even try to get through the full series, if anyone is up for that challenge too!!

I started reading this series like week ago and I’m already on the last book!! This series is literally so amazing and I’m questioning why I didn’t read it sooner!!!

Please please please keep everything spoiler free since I haven’t finished the series yet! Also no spoilers for HOO would be greatly appreciated!

Don't worry! We'll be keeping this thread just for the first book, so you'll already know everything we are talking about ahaha

My dissertation is due Monday, so I'll be starting the book next week sometime!

I've just rented the movie on Amazon though to familiarise myself with the characters before I start the series - Logan Lerman is an absolutely amazing Percy Jackson!!

Anyone else started the book yet?

I have just started reading the book, and I'm loving it so much.

OMG. So many thoughts.
I have never read the books or watched the films.
First of all, I love the fact that Percy is dyslexic and has ADHD and how it is explained afterwards as being caused by his abilities. I guess there is a good thing about the different representation. It means that heroes shouldn't always be perfect and loved by everyone. There are scenes where Percy is bullied and I guess for a younger audience this can mean that being bullied has nothing to do with your abilities.

Oh, I wish Percy's mom hasn't died so fast. I guess her presence would have been more encouraging for him, especially because there are many things that he doesn't know about himself. His question about the existence of Hades may hint at a possible adventure there.

Also, I love the Greek mythology facts that are mentioned every now and the.

One negative point I guess is the slight fat phobia in the sixth chapter.

The only thing bothering me about this book is that it is very US centric. It is as if everything depends on the western civilization. The book completely ignores the rest of the world.
It is hard for me to imagine that the gods are actually dependent on the strength of the US yet they are so powerful to the extent that their wrath can cause wars and major disasters.
I guess it would haven been better if the half blood camp was located in Greece and not the US.

This may seem a little bit crazy, but what if the person who stole the bolt was Luke. His father is Hermes the god of thieves. I guess that's why the prophecy said you'll be betrayed by someone who calls you a friend.

OMG
I can't believe I got that right.
Of course, I didn't guess that Kronos was behind all of that. I loved how this was mentioned in the beginning of the book on the trip to the museum. We knew all along that Kronos never loved his children, I would have never guessed that he would plot to stir up a war between them.
Now that was quite good.

I loved the book so much.
It was such a lovely read. I have never seen the movie, but I am so excited to watch it. Hopefully I will read the rest of the series soon.
