Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 513 comments Perhaps I’m biased because I wrote my undergrad thesis on The Watsons and wanted to write my own completion, but I found the Coates completion extremely flat when I read it in the late 1970s. Not enough of the humorous wisdom about people, the characters rather flat.

This is Austen's unfinished novel about a girl named Emily (Emma) Watson who comes home to her poor family after being raised by her richer aunt.
A continuation by John Coates ..."

I think you are refereing at "The Watson". I read it and I think is nice (because there aren't many books from Jane Austen). It's true is not a complex novel but I liked it.

vard | 28 comments I've only read the part Jane wrote, have never read a completion. I liked it very much and it killed me when it left off. I so wish she had been able to finish it herself. I'm not sure I would trust a completion, although the completion of Sanditon I read wasn't too bad.
