Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Has anyone else had problems posting (in group) lately? I haven't pinned it down yet, but it's definitely something to do with html. I can post just fine if it's basic text, and I can edit to add html, but if I try to post a new message with html, it won't go through. I've been too busy to try and figure it out, so before I contact support, has anyone else noticed anything weird lately?

Emmett (emmett13) | 154 comments I thought it was just me! I also had some trouble posting in a group earlier, replying to someone

message 3: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yeah I tried it on several browsers and also the mod account, so it's definitely not just us.

OK, great, outside confirmation, I'll email support!

Jemppu | 1735 comments Oh, wow. I'm glad I saw this thread; just had the same occur to me - couldn't reply back, *until* removing all html.

Wouldn't have known to do that without this. Peculiar...

(I do hope html capability will be kept in the next iteration of the site, and this isn't some step 'forward' leaking into the code already).

message 5: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'm pretty sure it's just them poking around in the wrong part of the code. You can still add the html after you've posted, it's just not very convenient.

message 6: by Jemppu (last edited May 11, 2021 06:49AM) (new)

Jemppu | 1735 comments Yup. I think you are correct. But, dang, if the thought didn't occur.

And yes, did just that. I guess for the time being the method will be: format a message > ctrl-a ctrl-c > clear all html > post > edit > ctrl-a ctrl-v > post.

(It's a rare occurrence I could leave a message unedited, anyway :P Always gotta be tinkering *heh*)

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I mean I wake up every morning suprised GR is still there, so I get it!

message 8: by Jemppu (last edited May 11, 2021 06:51AM) (new)

Jemppu | 1735 comments Ha.

Oh, gosh. Where will we go, when it decides to quit...

message 10: by Kristenelle (new)

Kristenelle | 107 comments Wow, thanks for the tip. I thought I was having internet troubles, but removing the html worked for me.

I hope StoryGraph gets groups soon, because I worry too...

message 12: by Eva (new)

Eva | 968 comments And will we find each other again?

If anyone would like to connect on Storygraph, here's my profile (not up-to-date though, can't manage two accounts at once): https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile...

message 13: by V.M. (new)

V.M. Sang (aspholessaria) | 77 comments Yes, it just happened to me.

Well, technically one could save even the time of clearing the html by formatting message, copying it, posting a couple of dots and then pasting in the whole message in edit :P

Oh, GR. You run like decades outdated software.

message 15: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments Thanks for this thread... I was completely baffled as to why all my comments were hanging forever.

Goodreads... Always improving the site.

'Scuse me while I go dip my hands in bleach for typing such blasphemy.

message 16: by Anna (last edited May 11, 2021 10:03AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Anyone wanting to share StoryGraph profiles, let's do that in the StoryGraph thread!

message 17: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments Maybe GR will get rid of HTML in forums altogether and switch to BBCode. I won't get my hopes up.

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments That would be wild, but then I'd much rather have a proper forum software (that uses bbcode) and not this GR mess.

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments I don't much care either way. I just want it to... you know, actually work. *head splody emoji*

YouKneeK | 1412 comments Corinne wrote: "Librarything has lots to love except people/reviews."

On LT they make up for a lot, at least for me, with the groups. There are some groups where the members who want to can each create their own “reading journal” thread and talk about what they’re reading, with as little or as much detail as they want. Other members follow the threads of people they have interests in common with and comment whenever they have things to say.

In truth, I have far more conversations about the books I review in my thread on LT than I do in comments on my reviews here on GR, which isn't to say that I don't very much enjoy and appreciate comments here -- I do! I just get more of them on LT. LT doesn't have a group anywhere close to the scale of this one though as far as I know, with our huge number of members, great general discussions, and lots of regular and active group reads.

I do have complaints about LT, as well as other things I like about it better than GR, but they're such different sites. Sometimes I feel like the only person who's relatively active on both, because it seems most people strongly prefer one over the other.

message 22: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 2428 comments I haven't had any problems like that so far except with the app on the iphone. Apart from stupid spoilers not being able to be opened I can't click on the links to the polls in the monthly newsletter and vote. It's really annoying.

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yeah but that’s just the app. This is a bug.

I got a reply from support but it was just the standard thanks for telling us, we’ll look into it.

It does appear to be fixed already

Jemppu | 1735 comments No, no. I'm on a laptop. (And always on browser, anyway - on phone, too).

message 30: by Anna (last edited May 12, 2021 05:22AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Sorry I meant I’m on my phone testing 😄

And yes always on desktop like anyone who values what’s left of their sanity.

Here's my test on laptop :P

message 33: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments So relieved they fixed it this quickly! Mod stuff is often a nightmare without complications!

(Yes, it's a nightmare because I've chosen to make it complicated, but that's beside the point.)

message 34: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments This seems to be back, and GR is super laggy.

Good time to have my laptop go in for repairs, I won't be posting much html on my phone.
