Karin | 9205 comments A bit of a fairy tale at the beginning and the end, but historical fiction with magical realism for most of the book. We don't know for sure when the beginning is, but two of the three children's tales take place in the 1930s, and the third during WW II with a wee bit at the end post-war. The fairy tale part is in Germany as is the first story; the latter two are in the States.

The audiobook is the better option, I think, if you want to actually hear the music--music is certainly a very important part of this story, and the three children outside of the fairy tale all have a great deal of musical talent. The tie-in is the harmonica, but to know how and why, it's better to read this and find out. I enjoyed this overall, but am not big on magical realism or fairy tales, so it was only a three star like for me.

Right now, for me, the link goes to the book I read and shows my review at the top (for me). I only reviewed one edition. Perhaps it was just off yesterday or something.

It's the only title by that author that shows up when I go to do the link :)
