As they interview students at Heathcrest Academy, no one seems to be unduly upset about Sadie’s death. What did you make of that at the time?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments These are all kids of privilege. Each one is spoiled rotten. I don't think anything that doesn't revolve around them personally, phases them.

I did expect someone to show a little compassion though.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 104 comments It was disheartening but felt very real. None of them wanted this "trouble" in their (seemingly) perfect world.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Heathrest Academy reminded me of The Stepford Wives. Appearances, pedigree and image seemed to be the only important issues there. So heartless and shallow no wonder poor Sadie didn't fit in.

It was distressing. These kids are too young to be this heartless and cynical. Their lack of empathy is what made me highly suspicious that’s something sinister was going on at that school.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments It was just sad that Sadie had no friends among the students. And their lack of empathy just upset me. What kind of people are they?

Yes, it seemed the vast majority of the staff and students were that way. And anyone who wasn't was made to feel insignificant and worthless. Horrible place .

Lynn (ftbooklover) After having worked with kids around this age myself, I know that they often have either had so much difficulty in their own lives that they are not affected by the troubles of others, or they haven't yet developed empathy for others and don't really see the real consequences.
