Kim prepares the final reports to wrap up the investigation, including the recommendation for Kevin’s promotion, and goes to the funeral but cannot join her team in their shared grief. Your thoughts about what was going on with her? Did you understand why she walked away?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Kim is reminded once again to be cautious with her feelings. She lost so many good people in her life. I understand that she needed to get that wall back up, so she can continue on without another person who means a lot to her.

Well said. We’ve talked a lot about how Kim created these walls to protect herself from loss. She was allowing them come down slowly and this is a serious setback.

I loved how Marsons walked her through her grief. It was authentic and poignant. No way would it have felt like Kim if she’d joined her team at that funeral. She just couldn’t and I don’t hold it against her.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 104 comments Well said, both of you.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments For me, Kim's problem is not that she cares too little, it is that she cares too much. She walls herself off so that she can cope.

It is realistic that she would struggle to let others in and have setbacks like this.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Great point Lauren. She actually feels very deeply and this is why she walls in her feelings a response to what happened to her and her brother in her young life. She appears withdrawn and solitary but she is protecting her heart. I so hope she can let the rest of her team in and she doesn't regress in her own healing.

Me, too.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I'm with you Lisa. I'm worried that this is going to be a big set back for her.

Lynn (ftbooklover) This is just another indication that Kim has not really dealt with the tragedies and sorrows of her life and still isn't ready to do so. I can see this as being a way to explore more about Kim's character down the road.
