25.4 - MEGSCL's Task: Lucky Number

Read two books.
Roll one die. Set roll virtual dice to 1.
You need to use this single number to meet ALL four different criteria. You can spread these criteria across two books. So you can use one book for two criteria and one book for the other two criteria, or you can use one book for three criteria and one book for the remaining one. If you can find a book that works for all four, your second book is a free choice.
a. Number of words in the title (ignore subtitle)
b. Number in a series. The series # must be present in the GR metadata.
c. Number included in page number
d. Year FIRST published ends in number (must be the last number in the year, e.g. 2021 equals a "1" book)
For example;

Rolled 5
book 1: In the Language of Miracles
a. 5 words in title
d. First Published 2015

book 2: City of Lost Souls
b. #5 in a series
c. 535 pages

or

Rolled 3
book 1: Mad About the Boy
b. #3 in a series
c. 336 pages
d. First Published 2013

book 2: The Kite Runner
a. 3 words in title

Required: State the number rolled and indicate the options that apply to each book.

Louise I rolled a 1
So if I read
Ignite
which has a one word title;
Is #1 in midnight fire series;
Was first published Oct 9, 2011;
And has a page count of 310pgs
Does that mean I have a free choice for my second book.

Yes, well done!

message 9: by Bea (new)

Bea My roll 5.

Question: Can the series be #15, which contains a 5?

Sorry no, it has to be #5

Maureen Anderson | 20 comments Why is this no surprise when i roll a 6. Ha ha

message 12: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Anderson | 20 comments is there a minimum page length for each book? or does it just need to be 501 + pages?

message 13: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Anderson | 20 comments 501+ pages between both books? for instance I have a short book of 176 pages but is there a minimum for both book lengths (on my mobile so can not edit message)

message 14: by Julia (new)

Julia (julia103) | 2718 comments I rolled 6.

Would The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. work for a six word title (since there are no spaces in D.O.D.O.)?

(I'm looking through my TBR list for books that fit at least two of the criteria.)

No minimum page length. Just the usual both books must be 100+ pages each

Yep

Robin P | 1609 comments I got 1 which is in some ways easy, some ways hard. I think 2 or 3 would be the easiest.

message 18: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments I rolled a 2 - kills my hope of a free choice, but definitely doable with two books and I haven't given up yet. :)

well, if you can find something published in 2012 or 2002, it's possible. I didn't realize that 1 is easy because of books published in 2021, while with other numbers you have to go back 5 years or more.

I've got one that covers everything except 2nd book of a series, but I also have several of those on my TBR, so I'm in good shape if I can't find one that covers all four.

message 21: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments OK, since I've had one book with "atlas" in the title rejected even though it was clear from reading it that it was not, in fact, an atlas, I need to have a moderator examine the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon for Space Atlas: Mapping the Universe and Beyond to verify that it is not an atlas.

And if the word "atlas" is enough to reject a book, then I better not see anyone getting credit for Atlas Shrugged, either.

Hi Aprilleigh, I think you need to post in the general help thread to have it approved by a moderator.

Good idea - I posted here mostly because this was the task where I was hoping to use it.

Inge (Inge1990) | 408 comments I rolled a two.

This will be fun.

I found the book: de stroopwafelshop, which would apply for the title and page number (320)

so if anybody has a suggestion for a number 2 in a series published in 2012 or 2002 that would be marvelous :P

There are several on your shelf that might work. You will need to browse for 2-years and verify publication dates, but it is a start.
Changing your shelf display is often helpful.
