Turns out the “best friend” Kiki was behind the threatening text messages and motorcycle attempts on Lara’s life. At what point, if ever, did you suspect that Kiki really didn’t have Lara’s best interests at heart? Did you sense any relationship between her and Tom? Was her suicide in keeping with her “crazy?”

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2971 comments I didn't suspect Kiki at all. But, looking back, I can see where she wasn't entirely honest with Lara. I also had no clue about her and Tom. Kiki's suicide was a convenient out for this character.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Tom was my prime suspect for this, but there are hints throughout the book that Kiki resents Lara.

Regarding her suicide, this was an easy out for the character and not really consistent with her personality. Given her actions, I think it would have been more plausible if she had tried to kill Lara and the secret service agent had shot her.

While I didn't suspect Kiki of being behind those text messages at first, I didn’t think she was all that great of a friend to Lara. Her comments always had a bit of an edge, that they could be interpreted as supportive or sarcastic. When I learned she was sleeping with a married congressman, I knew she really wasn’t as close to Lara as Lara was to her.

I never suspected her of being involved with that creep Tom. Frankly, they deserved each other. And this woman would never have committed suicide. Kiki would have gone down in blazes.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't trust Kiki almost from the start. I liked her at the bar. I thought she was going to be a fun friends. After that her comments and actions were suspicious.

Michelle | 47 comments Kiki as a character was all over the place for me. And no I didn't suspect her. At. All. I also never saw anything between her and Tom.
It's almost like the authors didn't have a clear idea of what and who she was. Because although Lara is friends with everyone and have blinders on about them, I expected more from Kiki. The fact that she was a stalker and then commit suicide! How did no one around her pick up on the fact she had a thing for Tom? I mean if Lara didn't see it surely the others might have spied her staring at Tom when no one is paying attention. Just something.

Yes I agree she would have been shot by one of the other while she was trying to shoot Tom. That's not really behavior of stalkers. They'd want that person they are fixated on to go down with them. The if I can't have him no one will springs to mind.

This was some excellent misdirection with Tom and Kiki.
