Solid page-turner. The author doesn’t bother with flowery prose, and some of her secondary characters are a tad one-dimensional, but on the whole, this is an enjoyable “family drama” that skirts on the edge of being a thriller. Owen and Hannah have only been married 14 months when he mysteriously disappears as his company falls, leaving his teenage daughter, Bailey, in the care of her new stepmother with a note to “protect her”. Hannah enlists the help of her ex-fiancée, NY hotshot lawyer, and a US Marshall, the strapping Grady (both characters are of the one-dimensional ilk I refer to above) to help her find her husband. She uncovers buried truths about his past and family, and goes on the hunt with Bailey to track down Owen’s connections and try to find him before the nefarious forces causing him to bolt get to him first.
