I like the eclectic mix of characters - they have a warmth to them that is really appealing. They're pretty minor interest, but I'm hoping Drag Annie and Wes develop.

Anyway. The sense of family August finds herself amidst is strong. I'm curious to see whether the detail about her missing uncle is going to be a factor at all, but I am sensing wistfulness surrounding the character of Jane. Third quarter. The plan feels like it’s instigating the end of something. Much as I’d like it not to be, I can’t see it going any other way.

Honestly wasn't the biggest fan of RW&RB, so I hope I like this one more, some how I still have really high expectations lol

Chapter 5

I didn’t like the start very much cause it felt a bit insta lovely, but hopefully now they figure stuff out a bit before anything happens. I wonder why Jane can’t leave the Q, like did someone do that to her or did she do something in 1976 to cause this?? So exciting!! (hide spoiler)]

I haven't read Red, White & Royal Blue yet so this is my first book by Mcquiston. I'm on chapter 5 and it's really good so far!

(view spoiler)[ Honestly really sad that Jane can't leave the Q. Now that she's remembered all of her previous life, hopefully they can figure out how to get Jane out. Jane and August are really cute now that their relationship has developed a little more!! I also love Myla, she's so cute (hide spoiler)]

This book is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I just can’t seem to put it down I’m already half way through it, here is my favorite quote from the book. “ When you spend your whole life alone, it's incredibly appealing to move somewhere big enough to get lost in. Where being alone looks like a choice.”

Chapter 7- (view spoiler)[ I really loved this chapter and how August is struggling with the idea of being done with school...I remember feeling like I was just thrown out to the curb and into "the real world" after graduating from college, and was just so terrified of the same things August was struggling with in this chapter.

(view spoiler)[I was so amazingly surprised by this, the pages flew by, I thought I was going to be in the group to DNF it because mostly heard bad things, but I really enjoyed it! There was nothing about this I didn't like. It was cute, sexy, emotional, the characters developed, I felt like I was really learning about August as well. The friendship group was great, the rep was on point, and it was just a good time. (hide spoiler)]

I thought it might have been good if (view spoiler)[Jane had gone back to '77 and August met her in present time but as an adult and they had that reminiscing time, and fond memories, but I can't say I'm unhappy with the ending. Chapter 14- (view spoiler)[ I loved the end of this chapter between Jane and August. Both were so lonely before meeting each other, and I felt like I could feel their loneliness. I love how this book is about connections...the roommates, family, August and Jane...all of them show how important is to feel connected to people. I love that aspect of the book....

However, I'm not loving this book like everyone else. My friends all gave this a 5-star rating, and I'm struggling with wanting to come back to reading it. I'm enjoying it, but I'm also feeling "just okay" about it.

I like that Jerry was the guy Jane tried saving back in the 70's...that was cool to tie him into the story even more. I also like how Niko was telling August about Wes's parents and how everyone's parents are different and on their own level of acceptance.

There are some really great points in this book...so good. But the overall story and plot is just okay for me, and it's taking me forever to read this book. It's good, but I think I was expecting this be one of my favorite books of the year, and right now, that won't happen. (hide spoiler)]

i ended up reading the rest of the story this morning - and gahhhh!!!!

(view spoiler)[ okay i've read fairly little lesbian love stories but this one is just at the top of the list. that's not to say it's *perfect* - but i just really really enjoyed it and it was so cute and heartbreaking! some moments were a bit like..."okay what does this have to do with everything" but i really liked how at the end everything just sort of solved itself and...YEAH IDK I JUST REALLY LIKE THE STORY and idk what to think. JANE IS SO HOT. (hide spoiler)]

chapters 1-5
(view spoiler)[I went in blind, because I loved the first book by the author and I have automatically added this one on my shelves, without checking the synopsis or anything else. And there is a mystery part to it that adds to the plot. I don't know if the synopsis talks about August's past but it was nice to discover it slowly, it add something to the whole.
And, so far, I am loving all things in there!
I love the way the chapters start, they are brilliant! I really like August and her housemates, they are the best! And the found family is such a sweet trope when it's well-developed, and in there it is! They all are great and complemented each other, even if I would have loved to see August spend more time with them. I need more of them!!!
And it is quite hard to put down, especially because at the moment I have just reached the beginning of the mystery of Jen. I need to know more! How it is even possible that she is in a picture of 40 years before???? Argh! I need to know! (hide spoiler)]

chapters 5-8
(view spoiler)[I can't understand why August didn't ask her coworkers before. This is a slightly annoying thing, because up to this moment, the author goes out of her way to remind us that August had a past in doing research like a PI, and how she is good at that, and so on and so forth, and then she can't start an "investigation" for Jane. It does not make sense, and it is annoying! Truly annoying.
But all the rest is still good. I love that we get to see more of the other characters around too, and Wes and Isaiah are so cute! And I loved Isaiah's party, and the fact that they all went to the metro for August and Jane! It was nice! And so funny! (hide spoiler)]

9-12
(view spoiler)[These chapters were longer than the others, and were also quite boring. There were some good parts, but I wasn't really invested in the story. The part about August's uncle was interesting, and sad, obviously, and I think that we should talk more about this period, but all the rest it wasn't so interesting. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I think that the secondary characters in there were way better than the MCs. It is not that Jane and August were bad, not at all, but the secondary ones are more alive, and they all are people whom I love to meet in real life. Their enthusiasm or their love for life (Wes notwithstanding) are contagious. It was nice and it talks about some important topics, and I am glad to have read it, but I didn't love it as much as I was hoping (hide spoiler)]
