Laura The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2) by Julia Quinn

Michelle and I are doing a Buddy read, anyone welcome.,This is spur of the moment so sorry no advance notice.

Laura I confess that I read book one so long ago that I can hardly remember it. I remember I liked it. The show is what is fresh in my mind, so Anthony from season one is who I am picturing as I read.

Laura One of the biggest questions I’ve had is the parents story, how the father died and how old he was so the book starting out with this info really reeled me in. Great start.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I'll try and join in. I can start the end of the week.

Laura Sharon wrote: "I'll try and join in. I can start the end of the week."

Yay! Sounds great! I’m only rushing this because mine is a library book in a box set so I only have 2 weeks for this and #3 if I’m in the mood to keep going.

Thanx for opening this discussion thread. Was going ask if I should but here we are.

I've never read any of them. And yes I find as I'm reading the voices and face from the show is popping into my head.

Same here. I watched a behind the scenes/things you missed thing on YouTube and they mentioned the Bee at the end of the final episode was a nod to the book and it had great significance. Great to find out what that is.

The more the merrier.

Funnily enough I'm also reading the boxset. Borrowed from my friend that absolutely loves it. Just marking it individually to up my book challenge. I'm already 3 books behind😬

I didn’t catch the bee thing. There is a lot I missed and need to watch season one again. Too many distractions.

Laura I saw that you finished on roundup. I’ll finish today sometime.I am at the part where they are in the country at the house party. The day after the storm. I’m loving this. Aww Anthony, I think I will love season 2 even without Simon. I had my doubts. Sorry, I keep comparing this to the show.

Laura This whole concept of only the beautiful being worthy of being courted is annoying as hell.

Michelle | 3258 comments Seems to be the day for mistakes on my part. Typing on my phone 😣🤦‍♀️.
I haven't finish Viscount yet. I'm m up to Kate trying to find out what he said to her sister after the serpentine incident. RL is kicking my butt and I'm not getting a lot reading done.

Michelle | 3258 comments Laura wrote: "This whole concept of only the beautiful being worthy of being courted is annoying as hell."

Right?!

Michelle | 3258 comments Oh. The Simon thing? Honestly he had his time he should only be doing cameos in the second season . IMO. Wonder if they will find another Simon to appear when needed. All depends on how they write the second season.

Remember in the first season they had Anthony falling for the opera singer. I've yet to come across that bit of writing in the books.

Oops ok I’ll put spoiler if I say anything specific.

Michelle | 3258 comments Don't worry. Just give the % of how far you are and then I'll know if I should read it or not.

Seeing as we're both reading the boxset. I'm at 41%. Kate and Mary are going to the Bridgerton musicale

I believe this is loosely addressed (view spoiler)

Laura In almost every series I read past characters show up in some way, so no Simon even in a cameo I think is a loss.
If (view spoiler)

You might be right. Interesting how they used this mentioned bit and built a whole storyline in the first season. Will be interesting to see what and how they continue his storyline

Laura 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

52% OMG the (view spoiler)😂😂😂😂😂

Michelle | 3258 comments I'm playing catch up.

I'm at 46%

Laura Mrs Featherington is a bitch. Kate is hilarious and Anthony is a clueless bastard.
This is the funniest book I've read in a long time.

His "talk" what an ass.

Take your time it's not a race.

I know. But still I now want to know what your taking about 😂

I'll shut up lol

Michelle | 3258 comments Lol. That wouldn't be fair of me. Go right ahead and keep the intrigue going. 😂 😂 😂

Michelle | 3258 comments 50%

Her under the table during the storm. Love that scene.

Laura Michelle wrote: "50%

Me too, I wonder if we are going to get the scoop why she’s so afraid.

Laura I finished it and 5 starred it. Kate was the best she cracked me up through the whole thing.

Michelle | 3258 comments I'm still waiting for the funny. And yes Anthony is a clueless bastard.
But then the way he was when he found her in the library under the table. I almost have a suspicion it had to do with her mother death. Because the first thing she said to him was I don't remember.

Anyway I fell asleep so I'm off to find what day 2 has in store for them in the country

Laura I love how this is historical but doesn’t read like it’s historical with all the proper language like no heretofores or henceforth etc.

Enjoy the rest.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I read/listen to this last night. I couldn't sleep.

Laura I laughed too. I loved the dog, Anthony's fall in the pond, and Kate is a hoot.

I thought Kate's fear had something to do with her father and part of his grieving process. The story about her mother's death was touching.

I loved this scene too. Anthony showed his heart.

Kate had a one liner or a sarcastic thought in almost every scene.
I love Mary for just stepping in and raising Kate with no resentment or favoritism. She was the real hero for me in this this book. Her telling about Kates mother’s death was touching that’s for sure. .

Michelle | 3258 comments Laura wrote: "I love how this is historical but doesn’t read like it’s historical with all the proper language like no heretofores or henceforth etc."

I also noticed that. The language is very modern for it being a historical. Nothing over the top but still modern.

Is it wrong that I wishmary gets a HEA? She reads as still young enough for a 3rd marriage. Especially if the girls are both settled.

Michelle | 3258 comments Laura are you starting the next book immediately or do you want to read it in a few days time?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Laura wrote: "I love Mary for just stepping in and raising Kate with no resentment or favoritism. She was the real hero for me in this this book. Her telling about Kates mother’s death was touching that’s for sure."

I agree. It isn't often that a step mother steps up like she does in historical books. She wanted both girls to find happiness equally.

I don't know if she will come up again in this series. It sounds like her first marriage was abusive. Her second was one of love. She deserves an HEA. Maybe she thinks she is happy where she is. Either way the girls will take care of her.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Did you have the second epilogue in your books?

I didn't but it is on the audio. Apparently, Quinn wrote a book of second epilogues to bring readers up to date with the Bridgertons that is now included on the audio books.

I did get the second epilogue, it was another Pall Mall game, nothing special I didn’t think.

Michelle | 3258 comments I'm reading a boxset that has the second epilogue Sharon.

Laura Michelle wrote: "Laura are you starting the next book immediately or do you want to read it in a few days time?"

I can probably start #3:tomorrow or even later tonight. I have a library book due soon so I’ll read that one today.
Go ahead and start if you want, I’ll play catch-up this time.

Mary deserves her own HEA. I would read her book for sure. There doesn’t seem to be many single older men in these books though.

Michelle | 3258 comments I've finished. And it was just okay for me.

I loved how everything came together in the end. Loved Anthony and Kate. Even the family dynamics are fun to read. Like how this is a historical romance but it's just the setting and I can enjoy it for the times and without the history lesson of the times.

Can't wait to see the direction of the second season of Bridgerton

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Laura wrote: "I did get the second epilogue, it was another Pall Mall game, nothing special I didn’t think"

I thought it was cute that they were all so competitive like when they were kids. It didn't advance the story at all.

Also about the audio book: I had the audio but switched to reading. I'm not a fan of the narrator's male voice. It was a little grating and pulled me out of the story.

I just can’t do audio, I’ve tried a few times. I gave up.
