Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments It was a HOT day here! A bit warm for my taste, but a nice change from all the rain. We are right smack in sports season and I am struggling to keep reading! But I did finish Beth Moore’s Chasing Vines: Finding Your Way to an Immensely Fruitful Life for the category of “a book that won an award.” I really liked it. I also read Eve in Exile and the Restoration of Femininity for “a book by a female author.” It really made me think.

I’m currently working on:

The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer for a book that won a Pulitzer Prize
and
Love Not the World for “A book by someone whose ethnicity is different than yours.”

How about you? Do you find it easier to read in the summer? Do you choose lighter “beach reads” or focus on more challenging ones? Either way, Happy Reading!

Amber Thiessen (amber_thiessen) | 69 comments We are experiencing a heat wave too (after freezing overnight last week). This time of year with so much to do outside, bike, beach and gardening, I definitely feel like I am busier, but I read on the beach too, so that has its benefits :)

I don't think I pick books differently over summer, it's a general in-the-mood thing for me whether I pick up more challenging, larger books (like biographies). I am still working through Paul: A Biography which is going slower than I thought.

For Christian living, this year I've been part of two blog review programs, so many of my books have been new titles for review. Now, one publisher is taking a break for summer, so I am kinda excited to go back to my kindle and pick up books i've bought but haven't read yet!! So that will be You Can Trust God to Write Your Story: Embracing the Mysteries of Providence, Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves.

I also picked up Institutes of the Christian Religion and will slowly make my way through it.

Christabelle, I added 'The Emperor of All Maladies' it looks really interesting!

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments I tip my hat to you for your boldness in picking up John Calvin! I wish you well moving forward.

The book on cancer is really interesting. It’s accessible, which I like! It’s also informative. I guess it just helps answer the question of what cancer is and why we treat it the way we do without being over my head. He also ties it to narrative and I think so much better in story!

I love the thrill of new titles, too! There are a few new ones on pre-order at the library I plan to “check out” 😉 Summer is also the time I try to read with my kids and let them participate in some summer reading programs. So I also look forward to that.

Beth Stel | 32 comments Well, updating here a bit late now that we are almost at the end of June! I'm realizing that I may have to adjust my goals for the reading challenge - I'll read 104 books this year no problem but they won't fulfill all the prompts of the challenge. It's not a big deal, I like challenges to stretch me and prompt me to pick up a book that I might otherwise overlook. So I'm going to revise my goal to 52 books. I've been in an "easy reading" stretch lately as with other things going on in life, I've needed reading that doesn't require me to think too hard. I've discovered Michael Connelly - legal mystery/thriller genre with a flawed hero (who you don't love all the time). Good for a change of pace but not reading that's going to change lives. And I'm okay with that.

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments I hear ya! I am thinking of changing my goal, too. Legal mystery/thrillers can be fun, especially when you just need one of those stories that let’s you fall away from reality for a while. Sometimes that’s just what you need. ❤️
