I just finished (it is a quick half day read) Midnight Sweatlodge by Waubgeshig Rice. This was such a powerful book, a lot packed into 96 pages.
Just started on audio, Tilly and the Crazy Eights, so far a very fun read.

This week I finished Silence Is a Sense, an interesting novel about a traumatized Syrian refugee who has resettled in post-Brexit vote England.
Then I read Unsettled Ground, a sad but beautiful novel about 51-year-old twins dealing with the loss of their mother. They have been quite isolated and live in a rural environment and have difficulty coping with the day to day. I really enjoyed this one - it's my favourite of the five Women's Prize nominees I've read.
For bingo, I'm currently reading Solitude: In Pursuit of a Singular Life in a Crowded World. I've also just barely started The Survivors.

I am listening to Good Talk:A Memoir in Conversations and am really enjoying it-lots of laughs-but serious subject matter that is giving me much to think about.
I just finished Five Wives by Joan Thomas and recommend it-checked all my boxes-Canadian, historic fiction based on fact-you can actually look up the actual Life Magazine article that has a big part in this story.
Next up is Be Frank with Me by Julia Claiborne Johnson.

Dead Shot - set in New Zealand in the 1880s. This was a very interesting story blending New Zealand history & culture with aboriginal issues, some prejudices and the murder mystery. Well written and with a feel of The Old West western but somehow more civilized (less "shoot 'em up")
Next up, I'm about to start Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (thank you, Secret Sender!). I've been wanting to read this one for some time now and, thanks to my Secret Sender, I recently obtained a copy and am excited to start.

I finished A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. Was such a great read with so many women characters from Greek and Trojan mythology. Loved it and learned a lot as I researched along the way. Now I'm deeply involved and equally disturbed by The Push by Ashley Audrain. Yikes this book is something else. I can't stop reading but the story knocks out the breath, hard. I don't think I will be able to erase this book from my mind for a long time. I was definitely warned but had no idea what I was getting into. We had a great Zoom chat for our May group book read: Five Wives, can't wait to do this again!

Anne of the Island
The White Mirror
N is for Noose

I finished The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo last week. Currently reading Summer of '69 and listening to The Menopause Manifesto: Own Your Health with Facts and Feminism.
Good morning!
It was a slow week of reading for me but I did finish Imagine It!: A Handbook for a Happier Planet which was really more of a review of what we can do to care for our environment. It has made me really think about my purchasing power and reinforced my appreciation for buying local. I also finished Sheet Pan Everything: Deliciously Simple One-Pan Recipes which really suits my lazy way of cooking healthy things quickly!
I have gotten away from How to Win Friends and Influence People as I am really enjoying The Overstory which is a dense read. it started of as chapters about individuals and families, all impacted in some way by trees. I wondered if they would all come together and then the stories "branched out" and came together. I am about 2/3 of the way and savouring this one a bit at a time.
my library hold of The Bedside Book of Birds: An Avian Miscellany became available yesterday so I will read it a bit at a time as well.
@Heather(Gibby) - Tilly and the Crazy 8s is a fun read... I think it just has an unfortunate title... if it were not for the Canada Reads long-list, I may not have know about or picked up this book!
@Susan - some heavy topics. I look forward to hearing more about Solitude.
@Wanda - it was so nice to connect virtually!!
