Sorry I accidently deleted Claude's post! I meant to delete Rita's (which I've done now) as it was not relevant to Aue discussion at all.
Apologies Claude! Please re-post if you can :)

Thank you! I'll message Claude in case she doesn't see this. :)

Ha! You often get it on Goodreads when you try to add a quote. The spam must be bad at the moment as I'm getting it Every. Single. Time. I try to start a new thread.
Usually you just have to do a tick confirming you are not a robot. Atm though you have to look at a series of grainy photos & tick if they have palm trees or fire hydrants or similar.

Anyway, back to Auē.
I gave it 5★ because of the emotional impact (& who wouldn't love Ari?) but I found the ping pong timeline very hard to follow & I didn't always have the characters clear in my head.
But I'm really looking forward to the sequel!

Rita, please only post in this thread if you want to discuss Auē. If you want to discuss other books please post here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
or start your own thread.

I totally fan girled & read a heap of articles & interviews about her.
This isn't one of them, but it mentions that it is a very loose sequel.

Interesting article! I wonder which of the characters she wants to explore more.
did anyone find the bits in italics through the book were at times confusing? I don't know why but it took me a whole to work out who it was
I found the timeline confusing. Maybe I missed something but (view spoiler)
I'm already feeling like I need to reread the book!

I think the sequel will be clearer.
In interviews I read with/about Becky people say what a good listener she is & how she takes suggestions on board.
I used to believe Eleanor Catton would write the Great Aotearoa Novel. (& she still could)
But now I think it might be Becky Manawatu.

I just hope Becky doesn't read it!
That is a lot of pressure. But her gifts are so strong.

And if you are reading this, Becky, you have some volunteers to read the ARC of Auē part 2.
Yeah it def took a bit to piece the timeline together.
(view spoiler)
I really liked the writing in general though, thought it was evocative without being too over the top.

I finished yesterday & had trouble sleeping last night. Very powerful book.
