Benedict Montgomery had a daughter, Copper, outside of his marriage with Mary Lou Chaney. It was not a town secret, even with his own children. His son, Cameron, takes Copper as his mistress and it’s suspected that her three children belong to him, making them his nieces and nephew as well as his children. Your reaction?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments As I said, this entire family and all of the twisted incestuous relationship were very disturbing.

Considering the abuse that Caitlyn and her sisters suffered, it is not at all surprising that Amanda turned out to be a sociopath and Caitlyn has MPD/DID.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It is a sick family. When we learn about Cameron, it felt like a typical southern family joke. All the abuse and incest was too much.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments It was a typical Southern Family melodrama for sure. I agree with Sharon, it was too much.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) The author was really pushing the crazy Southern family theme with these revelations. Funnily enough this part didn't bother me as it seemed really fictional and part of the story. IRL of course, no go!!!

Yes, this part did not bother me as much as the unethical psychologist/patient "romance".

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments The ick factor in this whole book was off the charts.

It all bugged me. This was just nuts. How did this family still maintain respectability in the town but Copper’s children were looked down upon? It actually made me a little angry because there’s a bit of truth to the circumstances. Wealth beats out everything.

Lynn (ftbooklover) Ugly mess - and with very little development of the characters, I had trouble feeling anything for them.

I didn't think about that, Jonetta, but it is an excellent point. So unfair that the legitimate family had respectability and the illegitimate family didn't. Money speaks. And, being from the South, I can see that actually happening in real life. Especially with the mother completely ignoring the whole situation.

I found the ick factor awful! But, I actually thought it might be continued in the younger generation, as I thought Troy was the one sleeping with Sugar. I was surprised that it was Ian. (I wasn't surprised that Ian had an affair. I just didn't see it as Sugar.)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't think Ian either. Troy made more sense to me. For some reason I thought Amanda and Ian were in a good relationship. I was way off.
