By the time Josh was killed, six members of the Montgomery family had all had untimely deaths (Charles, Cameron, Kelly, Nana, Copper and Jamie). Lucille referred to it as a family curse but should the police have become suspicious or were their deaths plausible as accidents?

Not only was the time interval between most of the deaths quite long, but there were logical and reasonable explanations for them as well. In such a large and extended family, several deaths from natural causes or accidents would be expected, so I cannot say that the police missed the connections.

Amanda was very smart in her planning.

I agree Lauren the deaths were a long term plan and executed in a believable way. There are families who seem to have a curse or early deaths. There wasn't any reason for the police to suspect foul play.

Amanda used a different manner of death for each and only Charles was an actual murder that should have been thoroughly investigated. You forgot the baby who died of SIDS and the batty Aunt who was pushed down the stairs. Way too many dead in one family. I think the doctor may have known something wasn't right.

Agree with you here, large family over quite a time period and known to have issues. Plus Amanda covered herself with her supposed accident. So no obvious beneficiary to all that death.

Geez, I forgot two? Eight murders!!!

Amanda was clever and inventive in her methods of murder. She set them all up to be plausible accidents. Lauren, great point about the time intervals. Who would suspect someone of killing children???

A smart detective should have at least been a bit suspicious. I mean how many of these stories do we read where one of the detectives says, "I don't believe in coincidences"?
