i ended up finishing it before july started, and i have to say i wasn't a big fan. like at all. i found a lot of problems and mostly just wasted potential with this book. i hope you guys like it though!

My thoughts are very similar to yours! I read it several years ago and it felt overhyped. It was just an okay story to me and most of the story didn't stick with me :/

Eve L I loved this book! I read it during quarantine and I reread the whole series again after a few months.

Jaye Card (jayecard) I read the book a few months ago, so preliminarily I can say, there were things I liked and didn't like, and that goes for the whole series.

My favourite thing about Cinder was definitely all the little bits and details about Cinder's life as a cyborg. She looks up stuff on the internet directly in her head and has sensors and everything. It really makes her character futuristic, instead of the cyborg thing being just aesthetic. Same for all the little futuristic bits and details in the world - it's something I think sadly gets a bit lost in parts of the later volumes.

I read the entire series, but I didn't get too deeply into it. It was fun, but it felt a bit hollow and often generic. Plus I have some bigger issues with the last volume, but that's not so relevant here.

I totally agree with you on this front. Cinder and the rest of the books were fun and I enjoyed the read but having read many other retellings and books in general since my first read through, I personally only got a banal sense of feeling from the storylines and characters. In fact I have yet to finish the series because every time I start the series I make it to the last book and just can't take it anymore.

Jaye Card (jayecard) I was actually kind of excited for the last book, because the third book, Cress, is the best in my opinion. All the characters get their most interesting development there, and Cress is by faaaar my favourite protagonist in the series. I'd marry her if she was real. But it's also where the major problems in the series REALLY become abundant.

The last book is the poorest in my opinion, tbh, but it's still worth finishing.
