What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read the book in late 2020 (idk if knowing that helps). SPOILERS AHEAD:

I belive the book starts off with the boy and the girl hunting rabbits? They later seek shelter at a womens house (her husband has gone to war). At the end of the book the girl and the women are kiled by naizs and only the boy survives. The womens husband comes back from war and gives food to the boy who is hiding under hay (?)

Auat, knowing when you read it is definitely good info. Do you have a sense of whether it was new or old at the time? Do you think it was a YA book or aimed at adults? Any idea where the story was set -- France, Poland, Holland?

Michele, i think the book might have been published between 1999-2017 just by the way it was written. I think it was a YA book but I am not completely sure. I think it was set in Poland.

ADD ON: the book I read was the last one out of 3 (however I only read the last one and I don’t know what the first two are about)

I’m thinking that this is actually Then, the second book in Morris Gleitzman's Once series.
