It's not often that I read a book AFTER watching the movie or tv show. And I almost always prefer the book to the screen, but in this case both were so good.
Classic sci-fi world building. In this futuristic adventure novel, Mars has been colonized, along with the asteroid belt around our solar system. And that all happened so long ago that all three populations have become a bit removed from each other.
After generations living in low gravity, the people living in the asteroid belt (called "Belters" in the book) have started to become physically unique from people on Earth and Mars (called "Inners", short for the inner planets). The Belters have much longer, thinner bones and grow to 7 feet or taller.
In addition to the physical differences, the Belters are the colonized in this world - the workers exploited and looked down upon, dependent on the Inners for their air, water and food. The differences between the Belters and Inners is a powder keg.
Early in the book a Belter water freighter is blown up - seemingly by one of the Inner planets. But it quickly becomes clear that there is another force at work. Something outside our solar system that threatens all of humanity regardless of their status.
This was half adventure, half space opera - and a really fun book.
