I have been a painter of byzantine style iconography for 3 decades and recently gone in the direction of writing about them. The books are formatted with text and accompanying image. My book called In Light of Women has been getting good reviews. Is there anyone here in the discussion group who would like to read and review. I would be delighted to send a PDF to you. In Light of Women
In Light of Women is a 72-page book that incorporates 24 full-color icon images, my own work in iconography using a mixture of egg yolk and ancient dirt. The images are juxtaposed with text that includes history, religious context and my own reflection inspired by continual meditation and thoughts during 25 years of dedication to this ancient technique and prayer form. The book includes a thorough introduction and three distinct sections that build to my most dynamic and contemporary works highlighted in the book. Part 1, Mary Icons explores the history of Mary the Mother of Jesus images in iconography tradition’s most popular images of her. Part 2, The Gospel of Mary Magdalene explores icons that were inspired by the Gnostic text with startling creative insights from traditional theology. Part 3, Feminine Voice explores classic icons interpreted with women added to them.
Thank you for these enlightening statements. The Gospel of Mary and Mary Magdalene are a refreshing viewpoint in real Christianity; which is banned by the Catholic Church, because they supports a Jewish blend of Christianity which is male chauvinist. How did Jesus treat women when he was alive? Mary Magdalene says that the dinners of the Apostles were opened to all Christians, the women enjoyed drinking wine and mixing freely with male members. There was often laughter and good will. They were treated equally; whereas right outside the doors, in the Roman World, women were treated like wild dogs. Jules
