Ch 1 Darrow - Hero of the Republic
- [ ] Well quite a reunion with these characters!
- [ ] Darrow has been gone for so long, but I am glad he made it home
- [ ] Looks like things are still pretty messy with the other republics and planets
- [ ] I’m a little confused with it all but it should make sense eventually
Ch 2 Darrow - Father
- [ ] I love how Pax has Rose-Gold eyes! I bet they would look amazing
- [ ] Also Servo has three daughters!
- [ ] And of course trust Servo to bet against their children!
- [ ] Poor Darrow, would be hard to see his own son turn away from him, especially since it looks like he has many people turning away from him because of the iron rain
Ch 3 Darrow - The Fantasy
- [ ] I really hope that by the end of the third book, they can live out this fantasy of these and leave all this politics and war behind them

- [ ] Oh no, looks like Mars is still basically the same as it was before Darrow started things! This is all wrong, why haven’t they tried to help Mars out!

- [ ] That’s rights Lysander is on the run because of who he is, they can’t go back. So will Lysander eventually come back and take back what’s his? I don’t know now
- [ ] But it’s horrible what they have found on that ship and those poor people and the gold girl too, I hope she isn’t dead
- [ ] It’s disappointing to see they are still using Obisidians as weapons though!
Ch 9 Lysander - The Passenger
- [ ] Okay what just happened? I don’t remember but are the Peerless Scarred bad now? I know they’re we’re the top Golds, I believe but what makes them so hated now? Are all Peerless Scarred Against something ?
Ch 10 Darrow - Liberty Eternal
- [ ] Okay so from my understand, Darrow wants more men and resources to end the war, but Dancer does not want to give him more men or resources as it has cost them millions of lives already. And now Julia, Cassius’ mother has spoken to the Ash Lord about Darrow and him asking about a ceasefire ? Is that right ?
Ch 11 Darrow - Servant of the People
- [ ] Okay I do not what this emissaries is like an ambassador, or according to google, someone sent as a diplomatic representative on a special mission. Was that Darrow who went to the Ash Lord? Is that why they are so upset with him for doing something behind their backs? And that’s why he has been demoted and under house arrest?

First of all, what a complete chapter by chapter update you had. i agree with everything you say and i will mention them later .Since I’m mostly character focused, I will do mine with each character pov.ready to be hit by my rambling for the first update😂
Prologue/pre thoughts: so for start, i have to say I love this solar system kind of map, and the world is very realistic in a way that our future will maybe happen to be like this out of million ways of possibilities, so I like that mars is a living place as well as other places like luna. Opening up with Darrow, always on the mission was very strong. Honestly, this book has rare situation in which the gap time doesn’t bother me and I like that we got a separate trilogy for the events after the original because obviously, after those big events and rebuilding and starting we still have way more things to come. I love, love that we get characters growth in this book and by that, I mean that we’ve been showed how these characters have grown and become this adult they are.
Darrow: I had such a roller coaster of feeling with him in last trilogy, y’all won’t believe me 😅he was a red obvs and they way he was described as so powerful and strong and he just won every match or I dunno those sorts of thing made him unbelievable for me. I know he obviously went through a lot, his wife death and past trauma an d all but just the fact that he wasn’t like all reds made him unrealistic in a way, but I eventually started to like him and more in last book and as of now, he is my favorite along with mustang. I specially watched him become what he is now and I really think his characterization is so well done (giving extra credit to author) because I don’t know if you guys are into MBTI because I’m about to ramble-analyze him by that 😂(sorry!), but since I’m ENTJ, and I know how this type functions I could feel him and see how his development progress and oh boy does that amaze me. To give a brief summary : A Commander (ENTJ) is someone with the Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Judging personality traits. Commanders are natural-born leaders. People with this personality type embody the gifts of charisma and confidence, and project authority in a way that draws crowds together behind a common goal. However, Commanders are also characterized by an often ruthless level of rationality, using their drive, determination and sharp minds to achieve whatever end they’ve set for themselves.
if you haven't done the test yet , i highly suggest you to do because it's very good for your own self knowledge
So that being said , if you recall back to how darrow made descions , acted , thoughts and all back in last trilogy , you can totally make sense of my judges. Also , nero was entj (and honestly , entj is common type for villians and bad guys so don’t mind that 😂)but you can totally see the difference of how darrow functions as entj and how nero did. Darrow is so morally grey(my favorite type of characters), and by that you can see how he Anyway enough of him , I just wanted to show you a glimpse of him and how fascinating he is to me.
Her face is elegant and distant. A small nose, piercing eyes behind thick eyelashes, and a mischievous cat’s smile growing on her face. The Sovereign of our Republic. Here at the summit of the stairs, her eyes shed the weight from my shoulders, the fear from my heart that I would never see her again. Through war and space and this damnable parade, I have traveled to find her again, my life, my love, my home.I bend to my knee and look up into the eyes of the mother of my child.
“ ’Lo, wife,” I say with a smile.
“ ’Lo, husband. Welcome home.”

~ honestly, I love that these characters are adults and we get to see this family dynamics a lot. And yes pax has beautiful rose gold eyes that seems like fantastic. So sad that pax doesn’t get to see his father a lot, and when Electra ran to sevro , I can totally feel what darrow felt when pax didn’t. also , this feelings that darrow has , man I can totally feel what he feels, his childhood and all.
She laughs. “I put him and Victra in the west wing so we can actually get some sleep. Last time, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking a coyote was caught in the air recycler. I swear, at the pace they’re going they’ll be able to single-handedly populate Pluto in a few years.”

~okay back to serious business here, and what the hell? First of all to answer your question karen , Darrow stands accused at a hearing of the Senate. Dancer has brought forth Cassius’s mom Julia au Bellona to speak against him. The Ash Lord had tried to call for peace but Darrow, seeing his lie, did not relent. His actions and the withholding of this information does not sit well with the Senate. Darrow obviously knows something and from his experience and point of view , he knows after this amount of war still going on , having ash lords suggesting piece is too sus. So he believes they don’ t go with ash lords plan because duh , he definitely has something up his sleeve and one thing that I’m not sure and angry is that why dancer is such piece of shit? After all , darrow saved y’all asses and came up with decisions and plan in those years but obviously since he is not the official commander or sovereign or whatever the heck they say , he did commit treason by ding his own worked without telling them. Screw y’all!and yes, better get the hell outta that place , though that makes darrow hot-headed as he was but i really think this time he better do something himself(like always🙄!)
~Yes , I feel you karen , the political intrigues can be very tricky and hard to fallow and I always find them annoying cause it’s hard to understand but I love a good and intriguing one and this is good for now , though I’m pissed!
as for other povs , i have hard time remembering them the ones back in last trilogy 😅so sorry for now but I'm sure will get a good arc for them here.lyra: woah , killing and murdering from the start of the book? brown didn't hesitate to start right of the bat😏
~okay so it's obvious that even though the important and main events from the last trilogy is somehow ended , but rebuilding and reuniting is still taking a good time from them and it's interesting to see that mars is a little inhabited and we get to see from this character pov that people back here are having problems and all , and i think it's a good reason to show even though it seems like peace has been taken over , but still there are many places suffering from different problems, and they think this new sovereign and heroes from past have forgotten them , i hope they overcome this and gain these people's trust. i mean come to think of it , it totally makes sense , this civil wars and wars with other colonies,and it makes it totally realistic after all , these are all outcomes of those big wars from last trilogy. but i hope it all be solved by the end.
lysander: okay even though he was kind of kid back then, i liked him. and seeing him as a adult is so good, funny that cassius is his guardian (why?) i really hope cassius doesn't screw or basically does something stupid again , cause he damn pissed me back in last book ahhh.🙄
Ephraim: hmmm is he new character or was he from last books? not sure ahaha but they seem to be in a heist, i need to read more to decide what i feel about him and his motives as well.
so that's it! even though this was the beginning and normally I'm hesitant about my feeling for the rest , i had a lot to say but hopefully as we go further into i might talk lesser and ran out of ideas 😅 so don't worry!

yesss Pax is quite a mix! i was actually wondering what colour eyes he'd have, given Darrow was turned into a gold... but i guess he's still got Red DNA and everything, which is good. he's Red on the inside!
and yep, only Sevro haha, i missed him! i love him and Darrow so much, if they die then i will hunt Pierce down👀.
i know :(( my poor baby Darrow, there's no love except from Mustang and Sevro, though i do understand Pax's emotions towards his father. Darrow definitely wouldn't be able to be around very much :(
I really hope that by the end of the third book, they can live out this fantasy of these and leave all this politics and war behind them

nope they're not all necessarily bad, but some of them are definitely against Darrow's new order, and the fact that she was hiding her face probably means she's wanted for something. i wonder who she is... surely we'll know her! but it's been too long since the first book for me to remember their fellows at the school haha.

yep i think you're mostly right, except apparently the Ash Lord sent emissaries asking for a cease fire ages ago, and Darrow sent the Iron Rain in return, which is what Julia just told the whole council... because Darrow hadn't told them that at all.

hahah i know, things are starting off pretty politically focused! it's ok, i gotcha sis ;)) i'm not that much better at understanding this stuff than you are, but yeah from what i can understand, the Ash Lord sent over some people to Darrow, and they said (on behalf of the Ash Lord) that they'd like to negotiate a ceasefire, and Darrow refused it and instead sent an Iron Rain down to Mercury.
it's definitely pretty political and a very intense start haha, only Pierce would start off a book with everything falling apart for our main character! i mean, Darrow just got pretty much kicked off the council and he's on house arrest!! but i doubt our boy will stand for that... i wonder what Sevro and the Howler's are planning hehe, i'm sure it's something big and violent. i missed them!!

yes the map is super pretty and useful, though i rarely use maps!! and yeah i love the dystopian style to the book, because who knows, maybe one day we will like on Mars and such🤷♀️

sameeee!! i love that we get more books because i love the characters, and you're right, they definitely have a long way to go with rebuilding the world. i love that Pierce didn't have them win the war and then end the book like most other authors, because there's always so much to do after a war, and most series' don't show that.

i agree with him being an ENTJ, that sounds like it matches perfectly!! and i loved hearing your thoughts on Darrow haha, he's definitely very morally grey, but Karen and I have always loved him with all our hearts haha. i think both of us have marked every book in this series as 5 stars so far? we both love Darrow and his moral-greyness very much haha, and i'm glad you've joined us on that front!
i actually thought the opposite about him winning every fight, because there were quite a few he didn't win (the sword fight with Cassius in book 1 is what springs to mind) which is why i think Pierce is such an amazing author! he changed things up from the usual protagonist who wins every fight. i definitely can't wait to see how things go for Darrow in this trilogy!

LITERALLY like i completely understand dancer's perspective about the people who are suffering and the million dead, but god, darrow literally overthrew the sovereign! give him some credit! he's not a fool, and i'm sure the Ash Lord was planning something.

yeah it definitely makes sense and is incredibly realistic, which is so typical of Pierce, because everything he writes has such realistic elements despite the sci-fi style of it all!!

i'm also not sure how to feel about lyria, she's living such a hard life and i do love seeing that not everything is perfect (i love it because it's realistic, not because i like the pain haha, because i do wish we could get a whole book of happiness for everyone but alas😢) but i have to dislike her a little for disliking Darrow, because Darrow is my precious child👀😂😂😂.

I completely agree with you with the map and the time gap too didn't bother me at all. It was very nice to see how far they have come along and it shows how realistic this book is. Every country has a war but the rebuilding and growth takes a lot of time for sure!

I liked how thoughts on Darrow! I'll admit I had always liked Darrow from the start! To me he did seem believable especially before Eo's death he was to me a typical Red, doing what he was told to do until he was hanged and made into a Gold. But it is interesting to see your point of view on his character, I can see how it would have seem he was a little up tight at the start. But glad to hear he is one of your favourites now!

I agree, which is why I really liked how not everything is resolved and is taking time. I do hope things don't get out of hand with these new problem and the people might turn against them for forgetting them. Hopefully they do gain their trust and find solutions quickly

Tell me about it, I worry since Lysander did say he could never forgive Cassius for killing his family but he knows he did save him from being killed. I just hope these don't get too messy with Cassius again. Cause in the last book, he destroyed me completely as well!

AHHH I know! I really want a happy ending! It's sad to know book 6 is stilll not out but man I hope it doesn't take too long because I have a strong feeling we would be left with a bad cliffhanger at the end of book 5!!!

Yep completely agree!!! Like people dying is sad but there would have been more deaths if the previous sovereign had stayed in power!
