I've also found that I need to run an earlier version of Calibre - let me know if you want this info, it's on my "old" laptop.

and you should be able to identify your device or, sometimes you can go to your Content & Devices page on the Amazon website (upper right menu there) and click on Devices and it should tell you which one you have. I see this for my Kindles:

Yes please.

I do have wifi at home, but I've had my Kindle (latest gen Paperwhite) pull this stunt too. Usually, restarting the Kindle fixes the problem.

Thanks, CB - I have internet but opted not to have home wifi, but my Kindle had been picking up the public wifi signal which enabled me to download books.

Thank you so much, Ann - The restart of my Kindle worked - problem fixed! Appreciate your help.

Yay! I'm not technical in the least, but I found this tip on the Amazon help site, & it fixes a lot of irritants.

hoping that amazon can help me out

try a different cord/cable (I've had 4 fail on me)
try a different usb port/wall socket
try plugging it into a computer overnight
if the port is loose, try going to a cell phone repair place and see if they can fix it
talk to Customer Service (this is not it) and discuss your options

have you tried the following:
reboot device (hold power on for a full 30 seconds then wait 1-2 minutes for it to come back up)
reboot router (unplug it for a minute)
then try again
or
made sure that the OS on your Voyage is correct:
How to Manually Update Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...
Update Files: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...
or
turn on wireless and connect
sync (menu option or icon)
look in (name depends on device/app) the All tab or the Cloud tab or The Archives (menu option on older Kindles). This is under the Library Tab and then Kindle (below the All/Downloaded ) on Fires
find the book(s) and download it/them by selecting it/them
or
made sure your router is using 2.4gHz and not just 5.0gHz - ask your internet provider how to do this if you don't know how
or
made sure that your device is not full

I have a Kindle Fire 10" (11th generation). I read my books on this device. Since I write reviews, I make extensive use of the Note's feature. The Kindle App was recently updated. I noticed this because the font used for the notes went from 14 points to 8 points.
For me it is difficult to read and difficult to enter or edit text. It is impossible to place the cursor using my finger.
Luckily, I recently purchased a Kindle cover with a keyboard. I was tired of entering text using the keyboard provided in the Kindle app. I also purchased a stylus. Even using the stylus, trying to place the cursor accurately has become more difficult.
Has anyone else been inconvenienced by this upgrade? I just do not understand how such a terrible feature made it through testing and placed in production.
I decided to lock and unlock the device. It did not work so followed with a hard reset. The device wouldn't turn back on so I decided to deal with the issue in the morning.
In the morning device turned on like always, the brightness was back on track but... it was just an ambush and false hope.
Trying to open a book I was reading it was taking more than 20 min - time for another hard reset I thought (nothing else I could do device was frozen).
Since then the screen flashes on and off on a hard reset page ( you know that carefree boy under the tree with his WORKING kindle- more salt rubbing into my bleeding heart)
When plugged into the computer it somehow calms down, gives me a loading bar but then restarts just before the bar is fully loaded and starts again.
When unplugged, it won't even go into hard reset no matter for how long I press the button.
If plugged into a charger it flickers between the white screen and the boy under the tree...
Amazon support was less than helpful claiming I bought the device from amazon.jp so I need to talk to them for a potential discount on the new device.
Apart from the basic press the button for x amount of seconds, plug the charger, unplug the charger no more advice was available on how to fix it or why did kindle start messing up so randomly.
Any veterans here that can shed some light, and save a kindle in distress?
