Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2594 comments I've been waiting for this book for so long. I was really surprised to get it so quickly from the library. The first book was so good, it took me by surprise because I was reaching past my comfort zone even though fantasy is beginning to be a genre that I enjoy! I recommend reading the first book before reading this one.

This writer does a wonderful job of setting and characters. The book took me right back to my love of the first book. I'm sure, if I was more knowledgeable about New York City, I'd have enjoyed it even more. Wecker's descriptions of NYC are so good, I can picture it and I've only visited briefly. In this book, the author also takes us to various places in the Middle East with Sophia Winston from the first book as she tries to find a cure for her trembling cold spells. All the characters from The Golem and the Jinni are back plus there are some new ones.

Chava (often referred to as The Golem in the book) and Ahmad are still together as the book starts. Ahmad has found his place working in metal and creating beautiful things. Chava works in the bakery impressing everyone with her skills. But their relationship has its difficult moments and life is getting more unsettled.

The story, the language, and everything about the book captures the reader. I enjoyed how Wecker ended the story with some additional insight into the future for the characters. Since Jinni's live to be three centuries old and Golems don't age, I expect we might see more but it won't be necessary because this feels complete. If Wecker does decide to look into more of their lives for us, I'll be in line for the next copy, no matter how long it takes!

Amy | 12914 comments I won't get to it in July either, but Theresa (and others) wants to read it too. I foresee a PBT Buddy Read this fall.

Theresa | 15520 comments I have the first in ebook in my TBR. It is on the "possible" list for my Feminerdy Book Club and that is one reason I have held off reading it so far.

Late fall buddy read for The Golem and the Jinni? Sign me up!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11067 comments I'm game for a buddy read of either book. I had to return my copy of Hidden Palace unread, because I decided I want to reread The Golem and Jinni first. I thought I'd breeze through it quickly, and start the new book, but it's long, and I'm in one of my heavy sleep phases again. (I've been sleeping 12-16 hours most days, with no diagnosis. I can't blame the winter or vitamin D this time).

I love The Golem and the Jinni and I highly recommend it. I am enjoying the re-read. I might not wait till Fall to read the new book, but I'll be happy to talk about either book in a buddy read.
