I really enjoyed this YA book about an angry Muslim girl who break dances and wears a hijab over her hair. Her parents are both high achievers who keep moving them (for better jobs). She is angry that she once again has to start a new school, with people who will make stupid assumptions about her. She was raised in the United States, and was always in honor classes, but her new teachers talk to her like she doesn't understand English. She's angry all the time because of the stupid and hateful things people have said and done to her. She shuts everyone out to protect herself. Her snarky internal dialogue is funny and enlightening. She and her older brother have always loved to break dance, and he forms a small group and they all practice after school.
A popular boy tries to get to know her, and eventually he breaks through her barriers. He thinks it's cool that she listens to music with her earphones hidden by her hijab. I really liked these characters. The dialogue between them is rather boring, but her thoughts keep the book lively. When people in school realize they're seeing each other, things get out of hand. The book has some interesting twists, and the romance and dancing adds fun.
