Suggestions for Book #3?

message 2: by Garret (new)

Garret (garretldavis) | 93 comments How about Imajica?
Hahahahahahaha!!!!
Sorry, had to. I did have a suggestion for a very odd novel that's kind of a comedy/horror called John Dies at the End. I read it a couple years ago and I will admit it isn't for everyone, but I was thinking of reading it again before I started the sequel (This Book is Full of Spiders), so I thought I'd suggest it here and see what everyone thought.

Length? Subject matter? Similar titles?

Garret (garretldavis) | 93 comments It's a bit over 400 pages and is a horror novel with a sense of humor. I would say it's akin to Bubbah Ho-Tep in some ways but deals with transdimensional conspiracies and monsters. The main characters are sort of losers who end up being the players in these scheme to try to save the world from hostile take over. It is a unique story, to be sure.

Garret (garretldavis) | 93 comments *Bubba Ho-Tep as far as the sense of ridiculousness that can occur but you have to just kinda go with it.

I am intrigued. I would also like to propose Jurassic Park. Not necessarily for this book, but before the new movie comes out.

Garret (garretldavis) | 93 comments I just read that this last summer (Jurassic Park and The Lost World both) but I'm never opposed rereading classics.

Tye (exjuan_valdez) I second John Dies at the End.

Tye and I were talking about this the other night and we came up with the idea that we should take turns choosing the book. Maybe even go in a cycle. I think it's a great plan and since Tye suggested Ocean and you suggested John before I suggested Jurassic Park we ought to go with yours and do mine next. After my book it will be Tye's turn again (unless we get any new participants). What do you guys think?

Garret (garretldavis) | 93 comments Risking sounding like a "yes-man," I actually thought that myself a couple weeks ago but wasn't sure how everything would turn out. I think it's a great idea and is also extremely fair. I also think we should be as sensitive as possible about costs, as well. I've had John Dies at the End for a couple years, and I feel bad if anyone has to pay an exuberant amount of money to get a copy. I know this should technically be in another thread, but I did have an idea about each of us compiling a list of the books we all have (I know that came up with Ocean at the End of the Lane, all of us already owning it), so that people don't have to spend a ton of extra money doing this. Just an idea for us to kind of see where we are, and any approval, negations, or other ideas are always welcomed.

Tye (exjuan_valdez) It's $10 on the Kindle Store. I can afford that.

I have a deal with the internet where I get my books for free. Most of the time, anyhow. On occasion I come across a book I can't find 'in the library' and I can either buy it or not read it. Usually I skip it. I don't have the time to sit down and read a book usually, so I do audiobooks. For some absurd reason they are twice the price of a paperback on Amazon, and sometimes five times the price of an ebook.
