This is the pre-reading thread for Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

Are you excited to read it? Dreading it?

No spoilers here!

Jen W. (piratenami) | 362 comments I've actually just finished this book, oddly enough. I added it to my TBR as soon as I heard it was coming out, so I was very excited to read it. I know a lot of people didn't like his second book, but I enjoyed both of Weir's previous novels a lot.

I finished this book a couple weeks ago. I am in the exact camp that Jennifer mentioned. I loved The Martian and it took me 3 attempts to get through Artemis. I loved Project Hail Mary in a similar vein to The Martian. This will give me a chance to re-read it to see what I missed the first time through.

All my kids borrowed it and read it within a couple days in the brief togetherness we've had with them (they're all 20-somethings and live in different states, both from us and from each other). I hope everyone here enjoys it!

I am excited for this one! I loved The Martian and liked but didn’t love Artemis.

Rebecca | 311 comments I was surprised by how much I liked The Martian, as I'm not a big sci-fi reader, but I heard enough lackluster reviews of Artemis that I didn't try it. Everyone says this one is a return to form, so I'm optimistic. I am a tiny bit concerned that the "hail Mary" in question will be a desperate attempt to save humanity and that I will have Feelings about that at this particular time, but of course I would also expect it to succeed, so... I just put myself on the hold lists for both the physical and e-book versions, and I am numbers 135 and 285 respectively, so we'll see when I get it.

Kathy Klinich | 180 comments Excited this got picked so I can join the discussion sooner-it took me 7 months to get Addie Larue.
I read Artemis first and loved it, apparently I'm a fan of snarky heroines, but also liked the technical aspects. I had been surprised at how much humor was in it, knowing that his other book was a guy stuck on Mars and how funny could that be. And then I read it and it was. I'm also an engineer so liked the technical parts of both, although I can imagine some people wouldn't enjoy those parts.

I personally like Artemis quit a bit, although maybe not AS much as The Martian. I happened to have it on hold for a while already, so mine just came up in a timely fashion.

Megan | 244 comments I'm excited for this one - it might be a minute before it comes in at the library, but I loved The Martian and Artemis enough that I'll probably break down and buy it first. :)

I just picked it up from the library yesterday - I am in the middle of something else that I want to finish first so I told spousal unit that he could read it first. He's on page 70 or so and has been giggling madly, so I'm anticipating it's going to be a lot of fun!

nimrodiel | 31 comments My husband and I finally got around to listening to this. I really liked it, although it went a direction I didn't expect.
