I'm starting the last 25% of Dark Roads and so far I'm not loving it quite as much as my GR friends did. It has gotten better for me as the book progresses, but I'm still not quite loving it. Have any of you read this book? What was your experience with it?

I'm a little disappointed that I don't completely love it because I have the ebook and audio, so I hoping to be able to gush in my duplicate reviews.

I'm also reading Seven Perfect Things and enjoying it, but it's somehow a bit slower than expected. Still good, but not a favorite. Maybe it's just me?

I've only read one Chevy Stevens book and I did not care for it. I do have Dark Roads and hoping to start it soon.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments I'm listening to Auntie Poldi and the Lost Madonna: A Novel. I won the first book in the series from BookishFirst a few years ago and gave it 2 stars. I'm choosing a lot of audiobooks from NG because I can go through those way faster than reading e-books (I listen at work and have a long commute) so I said eh, why not give this series another try. It's #4. I still don't like Auntie Poldi or the story within a story format. I will not be reading another Auntie Poldi book after this one!

I hope it doesn't break any rules and feel free to remove it if it does.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments Listening to One Night Only. Pubs on Friday. It's pretty cute so far, I like the male lead and not just because he's Irish. lol.

I hoping to finish Dark Roads today. I am enjoying it more now than I did the beginning. I'm pretty sure it was some of my own issues keeping me from enjoying the beginning.

I am also starting Tell Me. I read the first book in the series at the beginning of the month and grabbed this one from NG without taking my reading time into consideration. It publishes tomorrow so I really need to get on it.

message 10: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments I really enjoyed One Night Only! I've been more into contemporary romance this year and they've been good on audio.
I just started listening to Stowaway which pubs 8/3.

Two more reviews down!!

Tell Me (Inland Empire #2) by Anne Frasier Tell Me review

Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens Dark Roads review

I had both the Kindle and audio of Dark Roads, so that is actually 3 books off my shelf! :)

It does! I've been running right up against the pub dates lately. I'm looking forward to being able to review with a little less time pressure.

I'm reading The Noise and it started out excellent, of course. It grabbed my attention right away, just what I'd expect from James Patterson and J.D. Barker.

I'll be starting We Are the Brennans soon.

I finished We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange We Are the Brennans, which published today. I thought it was excellent and just what I was hoping for. I would recommend giving this one a try if you enjoy family drama, secrets, love, and mostly family coming together.

For those who enjoy audiobooks, I listened to the audio through Macmillan and thought it was very well narrated.

my We Are the Brennans review

I've already added it to my audio TBR!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments I'm listening to Ashfall Legacy which pubs 8/17. I've read all of the Lorien books and really enjoyed them. But I do really hate the synthesized narrations which seem to be most common for middle grade and YA NetGalley audio ARCs.

Lilisa | 574 comments I’m listening to In My Mother's Footsteps: A Palestinian Refugee Returns Home - I’m enjoying it so far.

message 21: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Lilisa, that book sounds really good. I added to my tbr. I put in a request for the audio at NG...and so it starts, my downfall! lol

Tasha I started The Silence of Scheherazade today and the writing and the setting grabbed me immediately. I think this is going to be one I end up really enjoying.

I've finished The Noise The Noise by James Patterson . I thought it was engaging and fast-paced.. The ending was unexpected, but a bit confusing to me. I might go back and re-read the last 10% or so to see if it becomes more clear. Still, I thought it was a great book.

my The Noise review

I think I'm going to try to finally get my oldest book off my shelf before we start our buddy read of The Orphan Witch in a few days.

My oldest book is Sitting Murder Sitting Murder (Lancashire Detective, #4) by A.J. Wright . I downloaded it in July of 2018! It was a post-pub book for review that published in 2017 and is 4th in a series that I haven't read, so I'm not sure why I decided to request it. It has good reviews though, so I'm hopeful that it will be a great read.

I don't even read those types of books, lol, but again, I requested EVERYTHING when I first joined! But hey, if it actually has a plot besides steamy parts, I'm in.

I think I might if I can fit it in this month. I assume it will be a very quick, easy read. Unlike Cloud Cuckoo Land. This book is a LOT.

I've just started The Orphan Witch The Orphan Witch by Paige Crutcher . I have to admit that this is one I grabbed because of the cover and title. I hope it's good! It didn't immediately grab me, but I have a lot left to read.

message 34: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments I started it yesterday but I'm only about 5% in. The cover very attractive!

I did the same! Looks like it started as one you could put down too. lol

message 36: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'd love to know what you think about it. After reading the blurb, I recommended it to my 15yo bc it seems like something she might like. It is a pretty cover.

I'm currently reading The Last House on Needless Street The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward and The Orphan Witch A Novel by Paige Crutcher The Orphan Witch.

The Last House on Needless Street has been interesting and is quite a curious story. I have a theory as to what's going on, but I'm not completely convinced that I'm correct.

The Orphan Witch has been a little slow-going, which was unexpected. There is a bit too much detail of the spells and learning process for me. The best analogy I can make is if you were reading Harry Potter and had to sit through all his lessons with him while he was learning about magic and spells in addition to his outside adventures. There has also been a strange love interest added to the mix. I haven't decided what I think about it yet, but the MC's thoughts about the other person are pretty repetitive, which I don't care for. (The cliched handsome jerk...) Overall, it's not bad, just not quite what I was expecting or hoping for. I'm less than halfway through though, so it could still turn out well.

I just finished Over the Falls by Rebecca Hodge Over the Falls. It was a decent, enjoyable enough read, if a bit predictable.

my Over the Falls review

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1522 comments I read Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney in one day yesterday. I loved it!! It was the perfect thriller, in my opinion! This is only my second Feeney book, I read His & Hers and gave it 3 stars, but this one kept blowing my mind!! I got this from Macmillan's Reading Insider's Club through NetGalley. It's a BOTM for Sept and I highly recommend it!

message 42: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Sounds good so I just requested, lol.

message 43: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I finished buddy reading The Last House on Needless Street with Kristie, which was really good!

Up next for me on NG is The New Home which I think actually releases today.
