Welcome to week 7!

This week is another book that is not specifically read, but is referenced in the Season 3 episode "I Solemnly Swear" (episode 11 in this season). Lorelei makes a reference to this book when she discovers that Joe has been pining over Sookie for 10 years.

Erin Kusch | 2 comments This book was better then I expected. My wife had previously tried to read it, but couldn't get past what she described as the rich upper class entitlement. I don't think she made it very far. Disagreeing with her, I found the upper class atmosphere was the setting and less the tone. Nick was a good outsider perspective of 20's upper class society. The underlying theme seemed to actually be a bit judgmental of the pomp and circumstance of the wealthy.

I wonder if Gatsby ever truly loved Daisy? Was it her, nostalgia or a love for what it would mean to win that one forbidden elite girl, proving to himself that he had truly changed his fortune. Sad that in the end no one was there for Gatsby but Nick who had never truly liked him. In this I found the most resounding social commentary. Nick, the only one not from the club was really the only kind person. I wonder why anyone should want to be part of a social club that is so easy to please when its a party and so quick to abandon when things go poorly.
