what happened to Simons mom?

in the series, Simon said her would 'get into it later but I want to know what happened to his mom.
I have not read any of Kelly Armstrong's other books so if it is in there don't call me an idiot.

Kelley never did say what happened, all we know is that she is out of the picture, but she is most likely still alive. my guess is that she left when she learned of all of the drama that was probably going to occur with having a child with powers.
