Greetings, short story readers. Throughout August we are reading from the Scottish short story writer Hector Hugh Munro, better known as Saki. His work The Open Window and Other Short Stories hits at only around 200 pages and is a collection of short stories.

According to Britannica, " 'The Open Window', frequently anthologized short story by Saki, first published in the collection Beasts and Super-Beasts in 1914. Vera, a charming teenager, plays a practical joke on a nervous visitor, causing him to flee the house. The story’s surprise ending, its witty, concise narrative, and its slightly sinister tone are all trademarks of Saki’s fiction." https://www.britannica.com/topic/The-...

Here is one possible digital source for the title story: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-sto...

Annette | 234 comments I have a multi-volume set of Saki stories. I’ll try to read the stories from the specified anthology.

Bernard Smith | 123 comments I am in for Saki. I have seen Open Window on TV, the actor portrayed the nervous and haunted visitor really well.

I ordered this Saki: Short Stories. Have no idea what stories are in it but it is a slipcover Folio Society edition.

Gilbert I've read a complete short stories of Saki way back when. Munro had a wicked sense of humor and was most enjoyable.
I recall a television version of some of his stories back in the 60s or 70s on our local public channel before it became public tv. Very interesting.

The Wolves of Cernogratz has a completely different mood from The Open Window. Then there's The Music On The Hill, which I remember from high school.

It's all about fate and quite dark-but good!
