Welcome to the The Mark of Athena Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on August 22nd and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

Didn't get to chapter 7, but I did make it up to chapter 5 so I got through all of Annabeth's chapters. Super curious to find out what this Mark of Athena is!

I am behind as I've been quite poorly but started now and am 5 chapters in.

Absolutely LOVED finally having Annabeth chapters as it's all i've wanted throughout the whole series. Very curious about the whole mark of athena thing and whatever the hell is following Annabeth/made Leo control the weapons while in new rome.

No problem! I doubt I'm gonna finish this book by the end of the month since I'm in the middle of a reading slump, so no worries if you read at your own pace!

I just got through Leo's chapters so I'm at chapter 9. I feel bad for Leo and how he thinks he's the "seventh wheel". It definitely feels that way with everyone paired off with each other. I have been enjoying his interactions with Hazel though. I wonder what his connection to Sammy is?

over half way through now and loving it. I really like the rhythm their in together.

I was also really interested what Leo's connection to Sammy is but I also kind of partly guessed it before it was revealed.

Percy actually seems to have some smarts about him in this book which is surprising after the other books but it's also surprising Annabeth which is funny.

The prophecy is coming together slowly at this point and they always make so much sense at the end which is one of my favourite parts of the books.

Just reached chapter 37!

I got to the part where Annabeth finally meets Arachne. I'm super interested to see what happens next with her! I wish I didn't have to get through three different perspectives before getting back to her story 😅

Yeah, I also guessed that Leo would be related to Sammy in some way so for me the reveal kind of fell flat. I've been bored with the majority of Leo's chapters in this book mostly because of the weird tension between Frank, Hazel, and him.

I'm cautiously liking Piper's character a little more. I've been enjoying seeing all of her visions come true and trying to guess what they are. I still have no idea what her drowning vision will turn out to be, but I hope they're all able to escape it!

I've been enjoying Percy a lot more in this series, and watching him and Annabeth interact is pretty cute! As hard as it was for him I'm glad he was able to let Annabeth go on her quest by herself.

With all that is going on I'm also looking forward to seeing how everything ties together at the end!

Finished! I was not expecting that ending! If I hadn't promised my friends I would read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo next I would pick up The House of Hades right away.

I was really impressed by how Annabeth tricked Arachne. That was pretty smart thinking on her part. I'm not sure how you felt about the Colosseum scene, but I was kind of disappointed that all Bacchus had to do was bonk the giants on the head and then they died lol. I love it when Jason and Percy team up though!

I have no idea what's gonna happen next but I'm excited! Nico is my favorite character so I hope I see more of him in the next book. I feel like all of them journeying through the House of Hades will be cool to see!

Annabeth's trick was so smart and even I had no idea what she was doing until she said 'Chinese handcuffs' - nice follow through from when Frank had them.

The Colosseum fight was definitely a bit disappointing but I think it was important moment for Percy and Jason finally learning to work together. Good old Mr D/Bacchus doing the bare minimum 😂

The book had been spoilt for me by a student before the summer holidays so I knew about Annabeth but I really wasn't expecting it to be a cliffhanger!

I also want to move on to house of hades, do you want to set it up for when you've finished Seven Husbands? (I had also told someone my next read would be get a life chloe brown)

Oh no! I would hate to be spoiled! Hopefully your students haven't told you about the other books.

Could we actually do Oct 1st? T.J. Klune's new book Under the Whispering Door is set to come out on the 21st and I'll want to read that right away.

Luckily they haven’t! One almost did this morning but I managed to stop them 😂
