Hey Audrey - I'll take you up on that buddy read offer if you still want it! Also, I've never done a buddy read before, so could someone give me a quick overview?

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool!! I'll update that then. So the whole thing with buddy-reading is where you both read the book and can talk about it later. I think that then we create a topic in this folder about it so we can talk about it. I'll make the topic and you can continue to talk about it there.

Georgia Morris (geog2001) | 58 comments I will read with someone but I am not sure what I would be doing?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

We would both read it, then talk about it. We'd have our own thread. That's how it works.

message 8: by Georgia (new)

Georgia Morris (geog2001) | 58 comments Oh cool I would do that

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you want to respond to any of someone's? Currently I have a few (up above in my comments).

Georgia Morris (geog2001) | 58 comments Could I do one?

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, yeah, but there are still requests waiting. But sure.

message 16: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I would like to start a buddy read with someone, I already did that with a friend but we called it read-along. And it was kind of hard to finish in time, once she took a month (!!!) longer than me. That was pretty annoying since she usually finishes a good book in a day or two, lol.
But I can't do any book, cause the Austrian library doesn't have so many English books and I don't wanna buy any books that I've never heard of and maybe don't like.
Here are some suggestions (you can suggest too, of course, and if it sounds really good, I could buy it):
Cress, Fairest, Winter (is this already out?)
The Selection
Angelfall
The 5th Wave
The Final Empire
Afterworlds
After
A Court of Thornes and Roses
Fifty Shades Freed
Vampire Academy #6
Specials
Ruby Red (though I'd read this in the original language - German)
Legend
The Darkest Minds
The Rosie Effect
The Beginning of Everything
or any first book of an amazing series I haven't read yet

If anyone even wants to buddy read with me :'-)

Wow these are some great books! I actually read four of them earlier this year. I would definitely love to buddy read Winter with you when it comes out, which unfortunately is not until November.

I would love to read Legend with you! I have borrowed it from the library a few times, but haven't managed to pick it up yet. The extra motivation would be great! If you don't mind, I'd like to wait until my school gets started again. I start back in a week and a half and I have summer homework to finish before then. Maybe sometime near the end of August?

message 18: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Yeah sure, I don't have it at home anyway, I still have to buy/borrow it.

I just hope that I'll be able to get Winter as soon as it comes out since I don't live in an English speaking country but I guess when I read it in English, there should be no difference and I could still get it on amazon which is worldwide, right? (but they don't pack the books properly)

message 19: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I just looked it up, on Thalia it comes out on the 10th of November.

Yep. Luckily, I have a great library system, so I actually don't buy books very often, unless they're $1 from Goodwill :P However, I will definitely be buying Winter as soon as it's out!

message 21: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer We hav, too but only for German books :-/
I buy nearly every book I read which is beyond expensive since I'm probably going to read 80 books this year but I kind of wanna have them at home and as long as I can afford them .. Though I get that it kind of is a waste of money since I never read a book more than once and don't even have a book shelf (yet). That was a lot easier when I still read German books and borrowed EVERYTHING from the library unless my mum bought me a book for some special occasion.
What is Goodwill?

Goodwill is a store full of stuff that has been donated and all the proceeds go towards putting people without jobs to work. It's got almost everything: clothes, furniture, toys, books, etc. And everything is pretty cheap there. Children's paperbacks are cheapest and they're only 88 cents, and even the most expensive books are a little more than $2.

I don't have many bookshelves either, but I'm actually putting some in my bedroom next week :D

message 23: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Oh ok, so it's second-hand. I don't like second-hand books, cause I'm extremly fussy (?). If there is one crack in the spine or some sort of deterioration (?), I'm done. I don't know why it's so bad, lol.
And could you please tell me if I used the words in front of the question marks correctly? I had to search for two words and don't exactly know if I chose the right ones, lol.

We actually have quite a lot, since my mum loves reading as well (though in German). We have at least 1000 books though she frequently gives some away. But my room sadly doesn't have any space for a book shelf. It's quite small and there's only one way to place all the furniture, so we'll probably buy one that stands into the room (I have no idea how to say that in English? Why do I struggle so much today? lol). I currently have my books on the floor, in boxes (carefully put in there, so that there's no way of destroying them) and widely scattered all around the house. All our shelves are more than full and many of my books are in those, too but I actually don't like it that much.

Yes, you used those words correctly! Generally speaking, I avoid the folded pages and cracked spines as well. It feels to me like book-abuse. :P You actually can find a lot of books in perfect condition at Goodwill though. Like, today I found a perfect hardcover copy of Insurgent.

Right now I can't fit any bookshelves in my room (it's pretty small too), but I'm re-designing my room for my birthday and I'm replacing my bed with a futon/pull-out couch so I have space for a bookshelf :)

The way you described your books and where they are reminds me of Inkheart. :D

message 26: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Really? Who gives that away? Weird.

I'd love to have my own library! It's my mum's and my biggest wish and we still don't have one :-( We would technically have enough space but we would have to either take all the stuff out of our cellar (tv, couch, foosball (?), ping-pong table, beanbag chair and all the shelves that don't contain books), make our lodger (he has his own flat but it was originally part of our house when we noticed it was too big) go away (which we couldn't afford) or make some part of our old house where my mum now works into a library. But that's where she and her colleage is working, so uhm, no. Dad has a small office there, too though I doubt he uses it but I know he wouldn't give it away. I'm so jealous of booktubers, it's insane! They have plenty of books they haven't even read yet, plenty of shelves, one has her OWN READING ROOM!!! Do you watch BookTubers?

I wouldn't mind reading Vampire Academy # 6 with Julia if you haven't read that yet.

message 29: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer No, I haven't. When would you like to start?

Sorry for the really late response Julia. I would love to start it on sometime on September or October. Does that help any?

Ok, sorry I kind of forgot about you ._. I already started but have only read like 50 pages yet and I'm currently reading other books too that have higher priority since I have to give them back to the library. So just tell me when you want to "start" and I'll then continue :-)
