Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Finished in July, alas- my life has stalled my reading and reviewing.

2nd in the Bridgerton series, this one focuses on the eldest Bridgerton-Bad Boy Anthony. We've seen him as the biggest rake around, and now it's time for him to settle down. What he is not looking for though is love. Enter sisters Edwina and Kate. Edwina is beautiful, and seems to be a great match for Anthony- he just has to get into her older sisters good graces. That seems to be a tough job, especially when unexpected feelings start to catch.

This was fun, exactly what I expected. It reads quickly, it's light with both laugh out loud moments, and some heartfelt yet VERY CORNY 'awws'. It's pretty tropey- this one being 'enemies to lovers'. I liked Kate, and appreciated the author trying to create an independent female character during Regency times, although the era is inherently misogynistic. I didn't really ever 'like' Anthony- at his best he is still condescending and always needs his ego stroked.

Jgrace | 3943 comments I liked the corgi. It saved the book for me.
I agree about Anthony.

Robin P | 5760 comments What I liked best was the cutthroat croquet game (they called it Pall Mall).

Me too! I was curious about Pall Mall when I read it as it definitely had to be either a precursor to croquet or just how the Brits refer to it. I found this confirming it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pall-mall

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I totally googled pall mall also!!! I thought that was one of the best scenes too. I played croquet a lot as a kid, and have been thinking about getting a set now that we have a yard.
