January 2022 MINI CHALLENGES

RULES

** Books DO NOT all have to be mysteries. You can use any genres.

** A book can be used only once for this challenge, but can be used for other challenges (Seasonal, World Trip, Ultimate, etc.).

** You DO NOT have to choose books in advance, and can change your mind at any time if you do.

** Do as many as you are able and have fun!

The start of a new year is steeped in tradition and superstition. This month’s challenges come from some of these.

1. January is named for Janus, Roman god of gateways and beginnings:
Read the first book in a new-to-you series.

2. Many cultures believe that eating something round (such as a bagel or donut) on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day will bring good fortune: Read a book with something round on the cover.

3. It is good luck to wear white on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, symbolizing peace in the coming year: Read a book with a white cover (at least 50 percent), or with the word “white” in the title.

4. Making noise at midnight on New Year’s Eve is believed to scare away evil spirits: Read a book with something on the cover that makes noise, such as bells, drums, fireworks, or a horn.

5. Another tradition says you should open doors and windows a few minutes before midnight on New Year’s Eve until a few minutes after, in order to let out negative energy and welcome in positive energy: Read a book that has a door on the cover (bonus if it’s open) or the word “door” in the title.
