Trying to find a book my wife read in the 90s

Hi everyone,
Bit of a longshot here but my wife has been desperately trying to remember a book she read when she was younger (90s). She cant remember anything about the name, author or plot, she can only picture the cover in her head. It was a purple cover, the front showed the back of a ginger haired girl, sitting on a bed writing with a pencil. She is wearing a purple dress/kimono and either had 2 chopsticks or pencils keeping her hair up in a bun. We have googled this to the point of giving up, if anyone here has read or knows this book we would be increeibly grateful!

Also tried searching it up but not much to go on
Did your wife own the book? Maybe it's somewhere in storage or perhaps she could ask a friend or relative who might remember?
