Hi everyone! I'm excited to get started. If someone else could be captain that would make my life easier (since I have to run the challenge) but if no one else wants to I can.

I am happy with you being captain, Hina.

I have to say I have been really looking forward to the start of this challenge- should be a lot of fun. :-)

So far, the only name I have come up with is Mean Green Reading Machine. Does anyone one else have any name ideas?

Btw, Kat won't be checking in until the 12th. She is on vacation until then.

So, Mean Green Reading Machine is our name and Hina is captain! Awesome!

So do we want to have a strategy....like we all read for the same words etc. OR we just look whatever seem to be in the book with the required word and towards the end use some kind of strategy. I have seen it done both ways and I don't have a preference either way. Any thoughts?

I've not played before, so I don't know which is the best way to go

In the past few rounds the winning teams have coordinated the items (everyone searching for the same items). Jenne's teams in the past have had each member list the items they can find in their books and then choose which items they want to use. Other teams have used a randomizer to choose the items to look for.

The most important thing is for everyone to get the bonus item in each week!

Welcome back, Kat! I hope your vacation went well. You will have to tell us about it when you get home :)

Had a wonderful time! I was in Santa Maria Cuba for the week where there was lots of sun and sand ... oh and we can't forget the drinks ;)

Now I'm back home where there is snow snow and you guessed it more snow :( and it's calling for another storm tomorrow morning... seems I got back just in time to do more shoveling.

I can't wait to start the challenge tomorrow I'm off work until Sunday so i'll have lots of time to find and read my book. Oh love the team name to by the way. And a big thanks to Hina for stepping up to be captain I'm sure you'll do an awesome job!

I'm also good with what ever strategy works best for the team I've done both finding all the same words as the other players and just reading for random words.

I did a little book recon before I left so I'm kinda set up reading material wise, I basicly just searched out some of the more harder words to finds and left the easier ones to chance

Hina were you going to make a spreadsheet? It's not a necessity, I was just wondering. If you need to look at some spreadsheets I can show you some of the other team's spreadsheets.

This is what I made for us. Would this work? I think it can be viewed by other people, but let me know if it doesn't work.

I'm getting excited to start ... I finished a book yesterday and didn't want to start anything new until I knew what the words of the week are going to be :)

I'm going to pick my book then see what I can find, then I'll list what items are available to me, so maybe if we all did that we might be able to figure out a strategy from there.

Places ~ All the places except State and Planet
Things ~ Coat, Plate, Candle, Box, Bottle & Lamp

Home/school/hospital are they like the other words in that you just got to find sentence with the word home/school/hospital?

yes, you just need to find the item in the sentence.

I'm trying to pick books with lots of item choices for this challenge that way I have a better chance at matching items with everyone :)

No rush Hina, I'm surprised I found my book so fast it usually takes me 3 or 4 choices before I find just the right book :)

I am so excited to get started- will start looking for a book and will post with the list of the items its contains shortly.

Btw due to time zones this is pretty much the exact time I will be checking in each week -it is 6.35am on the 14th here(sorry but I like my sleep too much to turn much earlier).
