Winner of the Pulitzer prize for Fiction in 2016. Sharp and biting perspective of the Vietnam War as "confession" told by Vietnamese narrator to his Vietnamese captor in POW camp. With significant sections of the story set in Los Angeles, the story includes critical observations on America and the American dream. Smartly written with heavy doses of satire, the book echoes past war novels such as Catch-22 and Slaughterhouse-Five. Powerful book, although the ending was drawn out a bit too long. The sequel, The Committed, was released earlier this year.

Sandy B (sbenemer) | 161 comments I have an ARC of The Committed (which unfortunately I didn’t get to) and bought the earlier book to read sequentially. I loved Slaughterhouse-Five so this is a promising endorsement.
