Historical Romance Book Club discussion

I suffer with anxiety and depression, and in periodic dark moments, it is the escape of historical romance & time-travel romance novels that help. A couple of years ago I read a romance I loved but technical problems wiped out almost everything including my online journal (No I didn’t have backup.)
Anyway, I read this book at least twice & want to find it to read again. The plot is that our American heroine works at a research/science facility with secret projects. She finds a room where strange things are kept in cages – animals and people. One of the people turns out to be an 18th century Scottish soldier. She helps him escape and in doing so releases everything/one. As they are pursued by the authorities of course they fall in love. Does anyone know this book? Its title and author PLEASE if you do.
