Jim (jimmaclachlan) What are you reading now? How is it? Please leave a link to your review if you write one.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) To Explain the World: The Discovery of Modern Science by Steven Weinberg is my current read. It's not going as well as I'd hoped. As interesting as I thought learning about the roots of science would be, it's kind of boring. Perhaps the subject is too broad & the writing too dry. I got a real kick out of The Seeds of Life: From Aristotle to da Vinci, from Sharks' Teeth to Frogs' Pants, the Long and Strange Quest to Discover Where Babies Come From.

This year I've also been reading What to Think About Machines That Think: Today's Leading Thinkers on the Age of Machine Intelligence edited by John Brockman which has a couple of hundred very short, but thought-provoking essays. I need to pause after each one & ponder it. After a few, my mind is full, so I move on to another book.

I'm reading Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire.
I'm enjoying it so far.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Natural: How Faith in Nature's Goodness Leads to Harmful Fads, Unjust Laws, and Flawed Science was a really good, balanced look at the word 'natural' & how it is & has been used, as well as what it means to various people in different contexts. While a lot was fairly obvious, Levinovitz has some excellent insights & put this huge topic into a manageable form. I gave it a 5 star review here:

S. Daisy I just started on The Storm That Grew My Faith: When you pray for rain, sometimes God sends a thunderstorm yesterday, and so far it is pretty good. It's a Christian nonfiction memoir about some very tough issues the young man and his new wife faced while trying to have a child. I find it very inspirational.

S. Daisy I just finished reading The Storm That Grew My Faith: When you pray for rain, sometimes God sends a thunderstorm and I really enjoyed it. My review is posted on the book's page. I am now reading Letting God's Word Speak: Lessons on Deepening Your Faith, and it is also very good. I like the short, easily digestable chapters.

I'm still reading Outlander 9 and it's so boring at one point I was falling half asleep. The only reason I'm finishing it is because I've read the previous books and apparently she's making one more.

I also recently finished another nonfiction book, which was about women who worked in STEM!
