- honestly I’m shocked by how dark and morally-grey the main character is, I did NOT expect it, but I think I like it! She’s angry and rude and a bit of a bitch and it’s a nice change from the usual kind protagonists haha.
- that being said, I honestly expected her to be more badass, and fight back a little more. Like I understand that she’s only a low reaper… but does she really just have to put up with the abuse? It’s a little bit annoying, though I’m glad she’s finally decided to make a move and escape London.
- her brother is a cutie, I liked him, and I liked Oliver the cat as well, I didn’t expect him to die that early on lmaoooo.
- I do have to say that for the first couple chapters it felt more like we were being told things instead of actually being there in the moment, but I think it improved in the last chapter or so, and I’m definitely intrigued to continue the book and see what happens next.
- also my god, I did not expect the racism to be so severe! Do you know what time it is set in? Because it clearly isn’t present day, people aren’t that obvious about racism these days. (Well I don’t think racist people are that obvious - I’m half Asian as well and I never get any of those insults) so yeah I’m wondering if we know what time this is set in, or if we haven’t been told.
- overall, this book has started off reasonably strong (though a little uneven, I don’t know how to explain it but the first couple chapters just felt a little unsteady and info-dumpy) and I’m definitely interested in learning more about this world with reapers and such!
