Let me nominate Elizabeth Lev's How Catholic Art Saved the Faith: The Triumph of Beauty and Truth in Counter-Reformation Art

because it might make an interesting counterpoint to The Power and the Glory. Fr. Stanley was an Oklahoma farm boy who felt he had an early vocation, but was not a good student and flunked out of seminary after failing Latin and Theology. But with the help of his bishop and others, was accepted into another and was ordained. He served his home parish for a time, but then was sent to Guatemala, where he not only became a much loved pastor, but also mastered both Spanish and the indigenous language and translated the Bible and other works for the native people of his parish. He was martyred by the local police in 1981, and beatified in (I think) twenty or so years later. My husband and I visited his home parish last year and left our request for a miracle, lit a candle and prayed together. Henri Nouwen also wrote about him, after a visit to Guatemala after his martyrdom, in Love in a Fearful Land.

Also, I'm not getting email notifications when people post on Catholic Thought. Is anyone else having trouble?

They as they have always been in the past.

Every so often you seem to have trouble with those. They must have a bug there. I don't use email notifications. Mine are set for the notification bell which I see when I sign in.

Notification bell? What's that?

The bell symbol on the top bar, right side. It will show the number of comments posted.
In the settings I follow all discussions by notification only. Most of the time I use my laptop for goodreads, and so I have no need to double up with emails.

Oh yes. I get both notifications and emails. No problems with the bell. It tinkles...lol.

So three nominations so far.
How Catholic Art Saved the Faith: The Triumph of Beauty and Truth in Counter-Reformation Art
The Shepherd Who Didn't Run: Fr. Stanley Rother, Martyr from Oklahoma
The Stripping of the Altars: Traditional Religion in England, 1400-1580

If we do, IMHO, maybe we should read the entire trinity rather than just the Inferno.
As an added bonus, there are dozens of paintings in wikimedia/wikipedia that illustrate the various cantos!

What Happened at Vatican II?
Trent, What Happened at the Council?
He also has lectures for these topics at:

Using Vatican sources for Trent that have only become available in the past few decades, Father O'Malley argues that Trent was actually the reform council that preceded Vatican II, and that Vatican II adopted the moral positions from Trent with very little modification.
For a book review on his book on Trent, these are my videos/blogs:

Hmm, that lecture series on Vatican II looks interesting. I've bought a number of courses from Learn25. I have to say, it's hit and miss. Some courses are very good but a few are not. The majority are good though.

I don't really see a book Bruce nominated, so I think we just have those three I summed up above. Nominations are closed and I'll set up the poll.

Trent, What Happened at the Council?

These are two books I nominated, plus the book by St Augustine.

His lectures cover the same topics as his books, but my recommendation is read the books and listen to the lectures.
I'm sorry Bruce. (1) It wasn't very clear, (2) you posted more than one nomination (only allowed one), and (3) you posted after the Saturday night deadline. You will have to wait until next time to nominate these books.
Everyone, the poll is up, but for some reason it's on page 2 of the polls. You can find the poll here:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/4...
In the meantime I will see if can change some of the defaults so the poll is on top.
