Marcus seems to instinctively “get” Daisy, sending her flowers every day while she is recuperating from her assault. Where does this come from? Do you believe he sees his sister in Daisy at some level?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Yeah, I believe he had a lot of empathy for Daisy because of his sister. He doesn't really know Daisy, he only knows what Smithy thinks and what he has seen. The flowers were a good call and really helped her cope with what happened.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Marcus sees his sister, but he also relates to her as someone who had it rough in the past.

I loved that he sent her the Daisies every day. It is like saying hello, how are you, and I'm here for you without actually getting in her personal space. Daisy didn't need to read a note or talk to anyone to know that someone cared.

Laura Yes, he sees his sister in Daisy and they both have a crappy upbringing in common. The flowers themselves weren't that original, but him sending daisys and every single day is what made it personal.

The way Marcus sees his sister in Daisy is knowing that she’s not someone who should be solely defined by being a stripper. He instinctively knows that there’s a person underneath the veneer used to perform. His sister was treated as “less than” because she was a stripper, even though it helped her be able to keep and raise him. He just refused to judge her for this reason.

I think the reason he gets Daisy in this moment is he got to see who she was before the rape and after. And, he saw the brutality of the assault. Experiencing her change gave him guidance in figuring out how to draw her back. Sending the flowers daily said, “I still see you!” They being daisies made it personal.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Yes, Marcus's relationship with his sister is definitely a blueprint for how he sees beyond Daisy's occupation to the lovely woman and beautiful spirit beneath.

I also loved that he sent her daisies every day and I truly believe that if he hadn't done so, she might never have recovered to the extent that she did.

Lynn (ftbooklover) Daisy = daisies
