Any other topics you’d like to discuss? Your overall opinion of the story?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I didn't like the story. I can't point to any one aspect of the story as I've read other authors tackle the same subjects and I liked them. I'm not sure I like Kristen Ashley as an author. She certainly has a unique presentation, not sure I like it.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 104 comments I can certainly relate to your comment Anita. I was a huge KA fan/reader when she first came on the scene. Her writing was so different and it was refreshing to read. Unfortunately, I tired of this unique style and found myself more and more disappointed with her later releases. I still like to go back and reread some of her early work (although I do A LOT of skimming lol).

Laura I get it Anita. Her style takes some getting used to that’s for sure and it annoyed me at times in this.
I liked getting to know Marcus here. He is pretty mysterious in the rest of the series and is a very minor character.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I liked it but I didn't love it. Like I said in a previous answer, this feels like an adult fairy tale not realistic.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Ashley is a fantastic storyteller and her characters grab you by the heart. I have read many of her books and consider some absolute favorites while others are so-so.

That said, her writing style can be difficult for some readers. Her sentence structure is overly wordy and her descriptions overly detailed, especially for mundane tasks and activities. Sometimes less is more.

I am, nevertheless, happy to get back to this series. It has been years since I read the last book, and I do enjoy her tales very much despite my issues with her writing.

I cannot define why this author, whose male characters fall so far from my ideals of most men, writes stories I find impossibly addictive. I only listen to her books because it makes a huge difference. I do marathon listens!

I read Rock Chick and it was just okay for me so this time I’ll be listening to it. I listened to the first 5 books in the Colorado Mountains series and couldn’t stop listening, literally. I inhaled the books.

I shouldn’t have liked this story so much but I did. Maybe it’s because these characters are true to their natures and I like that.

I have no explanation for my addiction. It just is.

One of the reasons for me is that the men in these books, despite their alpha-hole tendencies and being absolute jerks at times, love the women in their lives so much that it is impossible not to fall for them just a little bit.

I also have no explanation for my addiction to them. I did need to take a break though. We will see how long I last until I need another one.

Maybe that’s it, too. Combined with their authenticity, they become appealing.

Wonderful discussion, ladies!

Lynn (ftbooklover) I agree with Anita and JoAnn. I was engrossed in this book, but I didn't really like it, which is very contradictory. I did love KA when I first started reading her books, but I've become a bit jaded. My plan was to join in the Rock Chick reading you guys are planning, but this book just reaffirmed that I have come to dislike KA's writing even though a couple of her books are among my all time favorites. I hope you guys enjoy reading this series, but I think I'm going to bow out of this one.

Understand, Lynn. Thanks for giving it a shot.

Maybe on the next one. I'm still with everyone on DI Kim Stone and Lisa Jackson series although I'm a little behind.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Lynn, I totally get you not wanting to continue. I'm going to read at least the first three books and then reevaluate.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Lynn, Even though I liked this one, I can see where her writing can get old after a few books. I'm going to read along with the books I own then evaluate my feelings as none of these books are available at my library.

And I found that they are expensive. I like to read physical copies of books and my library only carries the ebook versions. KA used to be a favorite author - an auto buy. I'm not sure if her writing changed or if my tastes changed. Maybe both.
