Not sure of the years. I read it in elementary school from the local library sometime in the 90s. A girl meets a boy playing a flute. He turns out to be a unicorn and they travel to another land where the unicorns are going blind from a disease that causes a growth over their eyes.

Hello, at first I thought this was Spellhorn by Berlie Doherty or Swept Away by Josepha Sherman but it doesn't seem to match exactly...I will keep looking! Let me know if either of these seem familiar.

No, it’s neither of those. The girl definitely wasn’t blind, it was the unicorns. It may have been YA? It’s been so long I honestly can’t remember. And the land they travel to doesn’t have people I don’t think. Also there must have been some type of flying creature because I remember a scene towards the end whoever a blind unicorn was trying to stab something in the air with its horn. Also the boy that’s actually a unicorn, I believe the flute he’s playing in the beginning is a unicorn horn.
