Eddie Egesi (designsbyegesi) | 8 comments How can you drive more traffic to your author site? In order to drive traffic to a new website, there are two main factors that determine your strategy. One factor is the target audience that will be interested in the topic of your book. This would help you determine where to find them. The second factor is the kind of website it is. But the methods I have outlined below would work for almost every kind of site.

One way you can make a site more valuable is through blogging. You can develop valuable content that your target audience will find interesting. Each blog article needs to target the right keywords because a lot of people have blogs with several articles that target the wrong keywords that no-one is searching for. Each article also needs to be properly optimized for SEO. If people are spending time on your website looking at articles, commenting and sharing them then google will rank the site higher because it is valuable. This would help you drive more organic traffic. You can also share the article in Facebook and linkedin groups that are related to the topics being discussed. This is a great way to drive traffic.

Another challenge is bringing people back to your site. You can use push notifications and email sign ups. Push notifications allow you to send a notification to people anytime you have new content for them. Email signups allow you to collect their email addresses and email them anytime you have something new that they will find interesting. This would help to bring them back to your site. But it may be difficult to grow your email list so you may need a reader magnet. A reader magnet is what you offer to your website visitors in exchange for their email address. This is a great way to grow your email list but the downside is that they are not always loyal supporters.

Let me know hat ou think about the tips and if you know of any other ways that authors can grow their website audience.

Roxanne Bland (roxanne2) | 19 comments Great tips! I'll be revamping my website in the near future, and will have a linked blog devoted to books (as opposed to my current one, which is book-related but is also filled with my ranting and raving about events of the day).

For subscribers, I use a reasonably-priced service, Voracious Readers Only. In exchange for a free book, readers must sign up for your email list. They may unsubscribe at any time, of course. I've had very, very good results with it, but you're right--we're not necessarily talking about loyal supporters. Still, I've had relatively few unsubscribers. In addition to the book, readers receive a companion novella (please read the book first). The nice thing about VRO is that it's readership is worldwide. Most of my subscribers are in the US, but I've got a strong contingent in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Even a few in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Czech Republic!

Yes your most loyal supporters will not need a gift or reader magnet in order to sign up. They will be naturally interested in what you have to offer. But reader magnets are still worth trying. It also depends on your genre to determine what reader magnet will be most effective.

Stephen Heartland | 1 comments What are the best blogging sites for authors? I have been blogging on Goodreads and trying a variety of ways to market my book, but as you know, all these things take time. I know WordPress is the biggest, but is it the best for an author who wants to do a basic blog and SEO strategy?? A little help and advice, please. Thanks.

On my opinion it's NOT Worth using wordpress (especially at the beginning and to do basic things). I'm doing a simple Landing Page with Email service (such as Aweber or mailer Lite or others similar).
You buy a Domain with emails included (less than $10,00 for the first year) and create landing page. That's it. Don't lose too much time on wordpress or the perfect website. At leats at the beginning
