Should we make a post on /r/52book? I bet there would be other people interested that don't visit Goodreads regularly.

I guess making a post on reddit would be a good idea. Any plans on how to outline the group read? Like read a certain number of pages/chapters per week or sth like that.

As for the book, I like the idea of reading the Stand. I've read it before and I loved it. I've been meaning to read it again. And it's long. It's a good book to slowly read and space out over a month.
But I won't complain if more folks to read Metro 2033. That's in my to read list so I'm interested in it as well.

I've upvoted and commented on it for visibility, the more people we get interested the better.

I do like the idea of a one-week book club, though. Daily discussion posts or similar?

My vote would be for Metro 2033. I read The Stand years ago and it was very heavy to carry around with me!

it sounds like this would be more of a classic long term read over a few weeks; would anyone be interested in doing a more focused one-book-one-week thread at a faster pace sometime, discussing x chapters per day of a "shorter" 2-400pg novel?
I might start a thread here to organize a micro book club or similar if anyone bites, it might be a cool format for marathoning something like The Martian or even a classic novel like A Tale of Two Cities.

I like Pat's idea of breaking into four parts on a weekly basis. As tom said there are 19 chapters, so let's do 5/4/5/4.
Everyone happy with reading 5 chapters and meeting back here next Sunday for some discussion?

I'm really liking the book so far, I'm a little surprised at how little has happened, considering we're a quarter through the book Artyom has not even halfway done with the task that Hunter set for him. Bit of a slow start for sure.
Despite this, I'm loving how creepy it is. A great atmosphere has been built up through the constant tension and suspense metro dwellers are subjected to. Life on the line is slow, the only thing that seems to move fast is rumour and mystery.
I really didn't know a lot about this book going into, except for 'future dystopian russian' with a sprinkle of mutants thrown in. That said we've no real concrete proof that mutants are actually a thing yet, apart from Artyom's brief flashback to an invasion a year or so back.
Also interested to discover what will come of this mysterious noise that seems to be fucking everything up. Two things are clear at the present: only Artyom seems to be aware of it and I think there might be some kind of psychic connection going on?
Enjoying it so far and looking forward to the next 5 chapters.
