My community has been doing really good. Most of the eligible population is vaccinated (not me, though my father got the vaccine). I think we're supposed to have the highest percentage of vaccinations in all of Texas, so that's good. The Delta variant has supposedly not hit us as much, which is great.
COVID was rocky for my family earlier this year. There was a lot of stress around that time. Around March-April, my grandpa got it and ended up in the ICU. We did Zoom calls with the hospital frequently, and it was very painful to see him in the hospital. Out of my maternal side of the family, my abuelito is one of the healthiest people, but he is elderly and male, so he counts under the higher-risk population. My grandma and uncle got it as well, but they weren't hospitalized. They recovered quicker than my grandpa did. My abuelito is still recovering months later. I think I've had a couple great-uncles pass away from COVID, though I don't know which ones except they're on my mother's side. For sure one passed away.
At the moment though, we're doing pretty good :)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 389 comments Comic cons and big events are starting up again in my country, but there's still really high cases and there's tons of people refusing to get the vaccine so it's not over yet. I'm getting my booster tomorrow and I'm still masking up when I'm in public. I have POTS, which is a disorder that people are getting as a long term effect of Covid, so I try and advocate for things like social distancing and masks on social media. I'm sorta like "hey, I can barely stand up without passing out and I'm nauseous all the time so stay safe so that you don't end up like me"

Jenny Clark | 280 comments For me it's making it hard to take care of my dad. Alot of his drs will not allow anyone in with the paitent now, which I understand but I am the one who takes care of his meds and knows what needs refilled and half the time the drs confuse him so yea, it makes it really difficult
