Christine PNW (moonlight_reader) | 1165 comments December is always a perfect time to read a snowy, holiday mystery. Our Christie read lined up perfectly with Murder on the Orient Express (this was unplanned, but honestly, what are the odds).

So, nominations for Christmas mysteries below - recycled prior unselected nominations from last year are fine. As a reminder, we read A Christmas Party by Georgette Heyer.

Nominations open until I close them or until we hit the 8 book limit.

1. An English Murder by Cyril Hare (nominated by Themis-Athena)
2. A Maigret Christmas And Other Stories by Georges Simenon (nominated by me)
3. Crimson Snow: Winter Mysteries edited by Martin Edwards (nominated by Jessica)
4. Campion at Christmas: 4 Holiday Stories by Margery Allingham (nominated by Mike)
5. The Night of Fear by Moray Dalton (nominated by BrokenTune)

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 471 comments Hmm. It doesn't look like the new BLCC Christmas book (Rupert Latimer: Murder After Christmas) is going to be published in the U.S. in time for this group read, does it? :(

In that case, I'll nominate Cyril Hare's An English Murder.

I really liked that one, too.

Mike Finn (goodreadscommike_finn) | 357 comments I nominate Campion at Christmas: 4 Holiday Stories

I like the idea of short stories at Christmas.

BrokenTune | 349 comments Oh, this is a tough one because there are so many excellent ones, but I'm going with this one:

Moray Dalton's The Night of Fear

I really loved those three stories. They were my first contact with Maigret and they set the bar high.

Now that looks tempting. We need to declare Christmas to be three months long so we can have winter stories from mid-November to mid-February.

Seriously!!

One suggestion better than the next one!

Michaela Not necessarily Christmas but snow, so nominate (again) Crossed Skis by Carol Carnac, in case it´s available.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 113 comments I'll nominate a novella by Rex Stout, Christmas Party (it can be found in the volume And Four to Go).

Christine PNW (moonlight_reader) | 1165 comments You squeaked in, because I need to get this poll up tomorrow!

message 15: by Christine PNW, Agathyte (new)

Christine PNW (moonlight_reader) | 1165 comments An English Murder squeaked out a win!

message 16: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Just a question about my nomination of Crossed Skis - was it not enough Christmassy?

Otherwise I wanted to read An English Murder too! :)

Oh, no, it was plenty snowy for the theme - I just overlooked it! I'm so sorry!

I actually read it last year & really liked it, btw.
